How long does it take to make Grilled Buffalo Wings?
Grilled Wings only take about 20 minutes to grill at 450°F, but as always be sure to have a meat thermometer or probe on hand when cooking any type of meat.
These wings can be made similarly on a gas grill; however, we used a pellet grill such as a Traeger Wood Pellet Grill or a Green Mountain Wood Pellet Grill.
Once the wings are seasoned with your favorite dry rub, it is time to make the smoked wings.
Place the wings directly on the grill grates and cook on medium high heat, which is about 450 degrees F.
They will be fully cooked before coating the wings in the buffalo style sauce.
The internal temperature of the wings needs to be at least 165°F to be considered done, but to get the best chicken wings get the wings to a higher temperature.
If you want to get to the higher heat, then wait to remove the wings until the internal temperature reaches 175°F.
The instant-read thermometer I linked to, I have had for about 4 years and it works really well. It’s inexpensive and will totally change the way your food tastes when you are not overcooking it.
This thermometer will allow you to get the correct cook time for the chicken, which is going to produce the most tender meat.
Tips for Making Grilled Buffalo Wings:
This recipe can be done on the pellet grill or charcoal grill. If using the pellet grill, any pellets will work. We typically use a variety of different flavor pellets.
The type of pellets that you choose is personal preference; however, it will determine how much flavor and what type of flavor is given to the meat. It directly enhances the flavor of the meat that you will be cooking.
When making buffalo wings it’s all about that buffalo sauce. For this recipe, I use Frank’s Hot Sauce to make my own Buffalo Sauce.
I use a large bowl to prepare the sauce, then dip each wing into the sauce. Once the chicken wings are coated, place wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let the wings rest for about 3-5 minutes for the sauce to fully harden.
Alternatively, you can also use a Ziplock bag, place the wings in the bag, and then shake the bag to fully coat the wings.
If you prefer though, you can also simply buy Frank’s Buffalo Sauce and use that as well, it’s completely up to you.
We also like to season these first with Weber Kick’n Chicken Seasoning. It gives them a lot of zing and flavor too, this seasoning can easily be found at your local grocery store.
If you do not want to use this seasoning use your favorite rub to make some great party wings.
What should you serve pellet grill buffalo chicken wings with?

What is the best way to store leftover chicken wings?
Wings can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. When you are ready to reheat them, they can be placed on a microwave-safe dish and heated in the microwave for 2-3 minutes or warmed up in the Air Fryer at 350°F for 5-10 minutes.
They can be stored in freezer-safe storage for up to 3 months.
