How do you remove the membrane on a rack of ribs?
Many times the ribs may already be trimmed; however, if not, you will want to remove the thin membrane on the back of the ribs.
To do this, gently lift it off with your fingers or a knife. Once done, pat the ribs dry with a paper towel and move on with rubbing the ribs down with brown sugar and seasonings.
What barbecue sauce should you use for ribs?
Any barbecue sauce will work for this recipe; however, we love to use this Homemade Barbecue Sauce.
Tips for Making Slow Cooker Barbecue Ribs:
Do not leave these in for more than 6 hours in your slow cooker without checking on them. They are going to likely be done at the 6-hour mark.
The goal is to get the ribs to an internal temperature of 190-200*F. This can be checked with a meat thermometer.
The ribs may need to be cut to fit into your slow cooker or crockpot. They can either be laid on top of each other or to fit, or you can also sit them up on their sides along the edges to more evenly cook.

Slow Cooker Barbecue Ribs
Ingredients
- 1 Rack of Ribs (Spare Rib or Baby Back)
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1 Cup Barbecue Sauce
- 1/4 Tsp Liquid Smoke
- 1 Tsp Worcestershire Sauce
Instructions
- Remove any membrane from the ribs.
- Rub the ribs with the brown sugar, evenly coating them.
- Cut the ribs to fit your slow cooker and place in the slow cooker.
- In a small dish, mix the barbecue sauce, liquid smoke, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Brush the mixture evenly all over the ribs.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 hours.
- Carefully remove and serve.
