Air Fryer Mongolian Beef
Earlier this week, I shared these Air Fryer Fried Pickles, now let’s talk about dinner. So far, my favorite thing to make in the Air Fryer for dinner are Asian inspired meals like this Air Fryer Mongolian Beef.

Basically, I am making all my favorite items from our local Asian restaurant that because I’m gluten-free, I can no longer eat.
It was a sad day until I found out how amazing the Air Fryer is for making all of my favorites! I adapted my Mongolian Beef Egg Roll Bowls to make this tasty air fryer beef recipe.
The key here is to use a super thin steak, like flank steak. I actually ordered grocery pickup when I was planning to make this. They substituted my thin steak and gave me a huge thick steak.
I am now using a Ninja Foodi Air Fryer; however, you can check out a variety of different air fryers in my post on, How to Choose the Right Air Fryer. This is a great Ninja Foodi Recipe!
Of course, any other time that would have been great, but it makes for some tough chewing. That means with these recipes, remember thin steak.
How do you make Air Fryer Mongolian Beef?
The first thing I do after slicing the steak is coat it with cornstarch. It can also be coated with potato starch, whichever you have on hand.
I would not suggest using flour though it does not stick to the meat like the starch does.
We paired ours with white rice and green beans. That is my go-to for these types of meals.
A few others you may want to try are Honey Garlic Chicken and Chicken Teriyaki Bowls.
These are some delicious ways to do dinner in a pinch.
This Mongolian Beef only takes about 10 minutes of cooking on each side. Then, while it’s cooking, you can make the sauce in a small saucepan and the rice too. Once the steak is done, I like to soak it will in the sauce, then serve it up!
Be sure it’s well done with a quick test thermometer. This is an easy way to be sure the meat is at least 160 degrees.
That means it’s an easy 30 minute or less dinner, plus you don’t have to turn on the oven either.
Something about that just makes me all sorts of happy!
Enjoy this Air Fryer Mongolian Beef!

This beef dish is very attractive, can eat a lot of rice with this dish.
Used flank steak and it was way over done after cooking at 390 for 20 mins. I know now I should have kept a closer eye on it. The sauce had a good flavor.
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that, we do ours on 20 minutes with no issue but use a Midea Air Fryer. I just got a Ninja Foodi, so I am anxious to try it there. I have noticed with the air fryer, it’s a must to watch it because it seems like they all have a different heat that they let off.
I love Asian food and this is just so tasty and juicy!
This is soooo good! And I just love that it’s made in the air fryer. I hope you make more Asian dish recipes to share!!!
How would I do this if I don’t have an air fryer?
Here is a link to make it on the stove – https://www.mommyhatescooking.com/mongolian-beef-2
Wish I read the comments before I cooked, I agree 20 minutes is way too long
Sorry to hear that! I make this regularly and do it for 20 minutes in the air fryer. The trickiest part of air fryers is they all seem to heat a bit differently. I have updated the recipe though so that others will start at 5 minutes on each side and then check it since that can be the case.
I made this with a 1-1/2 lb flank steak,, using an out-of-the-box Ultrean air fryer at 390 and 5 minutes each side, then had to continue 2 minutes each side. Came out perfectly, meat slightly red in the center, and completed cooking by the time I got it to the platter.
Perfect, thanks so much for the feedback because each air fryer can cook so differently, this will be great for those with that air fryer!
I changed this up a bit. While my rice was cooking in the rice cooker, I made up the sauce and marinated my flank steak in it. Then as I cooked my steak, 5 min on each side, I brought the sauce to a low boil, then added the 1/3 cup corn starch. It needs to be stirred every 30 to 45 seconds. When the steak had 1 minute left, I took about 1/4 of canned water chestnuts, cut in half, and put them in the sauce. Then added the steak and used tongs to get it out, and spooned the thickened sauce on my rice… sooo good
Wow amazing! My whole family loved it!! I spray the beef with a little cooking spray and the meat came out a little crispy! 5 minutes each side was perfect! Thanks so much for this recipe!
Have you ever tried not spraying with cooking spray? In my experience with air fryers, the cooking spray does the opposite of what I expect. If I want crispy, the cooking spray is an absolute no.
Just got a ninja foodie recently and tried this recipe tonight, my family LOVED it! I found that I had to cook the meat for about 20 minutes, however I did slice it thicker than I should have. Will definitely be making this again, thank you!
So happy to hear you enjoyed it!
You don’t spray the beef in the air fryer?
Good point! Yes, you can if you prefer, I would. I’m updating the instructions to clarify. Thank you for asking!
Very tasty, although I had to thicken the sauce with cornstarch slurry. It just wasn’t thickening up in its own.
This was very good and super easy. I have a Ninja Foodie Dual XL and I found that I had to cook the steak for a total of about 12 minutes. It was perfect. I think it all depends on your air fryer and how thin/thick you cut the steak. This is a keeper.
Delicious! We did about 12 mins total in our ninja air fryer and the texture was great. For the sauce, we opted for 1/2 cup brown sugar instead of 3/4 cup and it was perfect.
