Make these easy scalloped potatoes in the Ninja Foodi in just under 25 minutes. These are also easy to make gluten-free too!
One of my favorite recipes to make for the holidays are these gluten-free scalloped potatoes. As I’ve fallen more in love with my Ninja Foodi, I knew I had to try these in the Ninja Foodi.
This scalloped potatoes recipe is a classic that was passed on from my grandma and out of one of her old cookbooks from the 1950s, the only change I made was the swap of flour.
If you are making these gluten-free, use gluten-free all-purpose flour.
Are these Scalloped Potatoes or Potatoes au Gratin?
The big difference in the two is the cheese, so technically these could be called Potatoes au Gratin because I do top them with cheese as well. Most people though will know them as scalloped potatoes.
Tips for Making Scalloped Potatoes in the Ninja Foodi:
- Potatoes should be peeled and sliced about 1/8 inch thick.
- These work well with any potatoes but yellow or gold potatoes have a great flavor and russet work well too.
- Use the Ninja Foodi All-Purpose Pan for this recipe, it’s a perfect size.
- The sauce can be made in the pot of the Ninja Foodi on the saute function or on the stove, it’s your preference.
- Let the dish sit for about 5-10 minutes to fully cool and thicken up.
- These will be made in the Ninja Foodi utilizing both the attached lid and the pressure cooker lid.
What functions of the Ninja Foodi do you use for potatoes?
To make Scalloped Potatoes in the Ninja Foodi, first, you will be using the pressure cooker function. The first step is to cook the potatoes with the pressure cooker function and lid.
The nozzle will be sealed and these will be fully cooked with the pressure cooker function. Once the potatoes are done, the next step is to make the sauce to go over the potatoes.
This can be done in the pot of the Foodi or right on the stove. I actually prefer the stove, but you can do it in the Foodi and simply pour it over the dish when it’s cooked.
Finally, you will build the potato dish in the multi-purpose pan and place the pan on the wire rack in the low position. This will be cooked using the attached lid of the Ninja Foodi on broil.
The broil function will fully cook the scalloped potatoes and get the cheese nice and crisp.
What should you serve with Scalloped Potatoes?
Scalloped Potatoes pair perfectly with Ninja Foodi Turkey Breast that is made with the air crisp function. We like to use this as a side dish for holiday dinners. It’s a great filling side dish and it feeds about 6 or more as a side dish too.
This is also wonderful paired with ham cooked in the oven too.
Now it’s time to make these Scalloped Potatoes in the Ninja Foodi!

This isn’t scalloped potatoes, it’s au grautin… Trying to find an actual scalloped recipe with cream sauce, not cheese.
I made this recipe for our evening meal. It turned out like potato soup! Don’t get me wrong, it was delicious, but for some reason I couldn’t get the sauce to thicken in the Foodi. How can I correct this problem, as I want to make them again. I’m new to the Foodi and still learning. Hope you are able to help me
Hi! I’m sorry these didn’t turn out for you, they thicken up while cooling, did you use the flour as well and 8 potatoes? If so, I would cut the milk down by 1/2 a cup if they turned out too soupy for you. Ours are pretty thick after cooling for about 10 minutes.
Thank you! I will try that the next time I make them!
This recipe has promise. I shredded my onion and instead of putting it straight on top of the potatoes, I added it to the butter to cook a little (I added an extra tablespoon of butter). This was a good idea for me because I hate raw onions. This recipe came out okay but next time, I would layer the cheese into the potatoes as it seemed to be a blanket of cheese on top and was hard to dish out.
No potato soup for me, it worked perfectly! Loved this. Wondering if I can reheat it in the Foodi as well like in a casserole dish the way I originally made it. But I LOVED this recipe!
Yay, glad to hear it! I believe you could reheat it that way as well.
Made these tonight, absolutely delicious!!
Ive been making many of your recipes and thank you for explaining each step for the Ninja, Im new to it and really appreciate it.
So happy to hear that!!!
I have the oven. Wanted to make scalloped potatoes in it Can’t find a recipe for it.
Hi! Haven’t made this recipe yet but will be for a family reunion. Do you drain the potatoes of the liquid before you put them in the all purpose pan or do you just dump everything in? Just want to make sure ours don’t turn into soup!!
I didn’t drain mine, but you can drain if you prefer.
I tweeked the recipe just a bit and my husband went back for seconds. He agreed that all the scalloped potatoes I’ve made, this beat the rest. So….how did I tweek it? I took out my frozen ham chunks from the freezer and nuked them for one minute (to unthaw just enough to cut into cubes). I stirred them into the potato slices just before pressurizing them. For the Rue (the butter and flour mixture), one or two of my tablespoons of flour were heaping (helped make a thicker sauce!) When it was time to add the milk, I also added a can of cream of mushroom soup, and whisked it into the milk. Then waited for it to boil and thicken up a bit My potatoes were not done when the cream sauce was done. So it sat on the stove until it was time to add it to the potatoes. I whisked it every now and then. Once it was poured over the potatoes, I carefully mixed in the sauce (so as to NOT mash the potatoes!!). This means that the onions got mixed in, also. When it came time for the cheese, I added a little extra! The nice crisp, cheesy topping topped it all off supremely!! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe with us. 🙂
I am trying to use this recipe and I have the the ninja foodie all function pressure cooker, air crisper Etc and that rack whether it’s tall or short the only pan I have that goes in there is the air crisper pan that has holes in the bottom of it that sits on a 4 legged perch. Even with the perch removed I can barely fit the rack on the low or the high inside the air crisper pan and the lid won’t shut on the foodie. This is extremely unclear what you’re talking about. All I got with my ninja foodi was the air crisper pan, two wire racks, the pot, & the pressure lid. What pan are you talking about?
Here is the pan I use mentioned within the post but it’s the all-purpose pan for the Ninja Foodi Multi-Cooker. https://www.ninjakitchen.com/parts/0/all/2713/foodi-multi-purpose-pan/
You’ll just want to be sure it fits your machine. This recipe is made with the Ninja Foodi Multi-Cooker – https://www.ninjakitchen.com/exclusive-offer/OL601WBKT/ninja-foodi-14-in-1-8-qt-xl-pressure-cooker-steam-fryer-with-smartLid/ (or similar size)
