This past week I was ask to shop at Cookie’s Kids for an outfit to go along with my son’s Halloween costume. I was so excited about this because we knew we were going to make his costume this year. He really wanted to be Cranky the Crane from Thomas & Friends; however, finding a Cranky the Crane costume at the store is nearly impossible.
So, I set out to find the perfect gray outfit to go under his costume plus we also had to come up with an idea on how to make this costume for him. I had a few ideas in mind as I shopped Cookie’s Kids. I wanted to find some basic gray items that could work for both warm or cool weather. Here in Oklahoma some years it’s low 50’s and 40’s on Halloween and some years it’s in the 90’s! You just never know what you are going to get, so I wanted to be prepared.
I used this board for inspiration, and I quickly found the pants that I had in mind! Next, I found the shirt that I wanted to try as well.
Once I had my clothes picked out it was time to get started on the actual costume. My husband took over the costume making. He used a basic cardboard box along with spray paint to make the costume. We went through the craft store and picked up items we knew we could use for the costume. Then, he went to building it!
My son was more than happy to help out and he loved his Cranky the Crane hat. We used his Tonka construction hat and spray painted it then added some cardboard and chenille pipe cleaners to make the crane.
Once we had the hat and the box done it was time to assemble, starting with the clothes from Cookie’s Kids! Next up, costume time!
I am fairly certain my son would sleep in this if we let him. It’s a great way to get creative by making some of your kids favorite toys come to life!
Now we are all set for Halloween! We will likely add a little face paint the day of our fall festival and trick or treating, but I think we accomplished what we were setting out to do. I know my husband loved making this, and I am so impressed with his crafting skills!
