Make a delicious and simple cake with this Easy Air Fryer Cake, it can be made gluten-free too plus in the Ninja Foodi!
Making an Air Fryer Cake is so simple and easy, it’s a great way to make a little dessert for the family using a boxed cake mix. We like to use this Gluten-Free Pillsbury Funfetti Cake Mix for this recipe, but you can use any boxed cake mix.
This recipe was originally shared over on Air Fryer Fanatics.
What do you need to make Air Fryer Cake?
The first thing you need is a pan that will fit in the Air Fryer that you are using. We used a Ninja Foodi Air Fryer to make our cake, so I decided to use this 7-inch SpringForm Pan. This pan can also be used for Ninja Foodi Cheesecake too.
The hardest part of making this cake is simply getting the pan out of the Air Fryer, so be sure to use a pan that is easy to remove from the air fryer or you can also use a sling too or a pan that has a handle such as this pan.
In my case, I simply let the cake cool in the air fryer with the lid open for about 5 minutes, then I used an oven mitt to remove it from the air fryer basket.
Since I use a springform pan, I can easily release the cake from the pan, the cake will also lift smoothly right off the bottom of the springform pan, or you can leave it on that pan to serve it too.
I prefer to spray the springform pan with coconut oil spray before putting it into the air fryer, but you can use any high heat oil spray of your choice if you prefer.
The cake will need to fully cool on a wire rack before frosting too.
How long do you cook a cake in the Air Fryer?
Every air fryer is going to heat differently, I can’t stress that enough with any recipe that you find for an air fryer the times may be off simply due to the heat difference in machines.
I used a Ninja Foodi Air Fryer and found that this cake was best at 35 minutes at 320*F.
I have tested this particular recipe in a variety of machines and so far that seemed to be the golden time for me as far as getting it well done in the middle but also not burning the cake too.
How do you make Air Fryer Cake in the Ninja Foodi?
This cake can be made easily in the Ninja Foodi using the Air Crisp function, which is the Ninja way to say…Air Fryer.
That’s the only thing you will need to do, all the other steps will stay the same.
It can also be made with a bundt pan in the Ninja Foodi, if you use this, I would check the cake at 20 minutes as it will be done at a faster cooking time.
How do you make this gluten-free?
A simple switch of cake mix is the only thing you need to make this gluten-free. This recipe will use a boxed cake mix so if you need gluten-free, choose a mix that is gluten-free.
If you prefer to make the cake from scratch, check out this Funfetti Angel Food Cake from The Best Cake Recipes.

I never knew you could use an air fryer to bake a cake! Thank you for sharing at Party In Your PJ’s!.
Impressive. I don’t have an air fryer yet – but it is surprising to find out that you can bake a cake in an air fryer. Thanks for sharing. #HomeMattersParty
Did you put this directly in the Foodi on the nonstick cooking pot or on one of the wire racks included?
If you use the Ninja Foodi, I would put it on the wire rack on the lowest level. I’m going to update to clarify, good question!
Can you do Xmas cake in air fryer.dD
You could try it using this method, just have to watch the cook times.
Could you please tell me if I can just make this right in my ninja foodie or do I need a special pan to insert to bake in? I have a mix sitting on the counter to bake but I don’t know if I dare pour it directly in the pan. Thank you so much.
This worked the best in a 7inch springform pan that fits in your foodi.
I’m not sure what I did wrong. I used a box cake and everything. Put it in for 45 minutes and the center was still raw.
Did you use a springform pan?
I was disappointed that my first cake in a Foodi didn’t turn out. I used a 7-inch springform pan that I had greased, set it on the rack, preheated 5 minutes, then baked with foil covering at 350. It rose up under the foil and the machine stopped and flashed. I sliced off the top and hen the Foodi continued but stopped for attention another time. I wasn’t expecting much for the first time, and obviously it was too much batter. I am surprised that you used the same pan with success.
I’m sorry it didn’t work out, but my recipe does not use foil.
Do you put all the batter from a cake mix in, or split it in two?
I put the whole thing into the multi-purpose pan.
I don’t have a tin that fits my drawers but I do have the silicone trays with handles. Can I bake the cake in these, or does it have to be metal tins??
Yes, you can bake in those but timing will vary due to the different material so you’ll need to test it to figure out what timing to do so that it’s fully cooked.
