This past week I was able to team up with Jennie-O and Champions for Kids to promote eating healthier and giving back with the Make the Switch Jennie-O Champions for Kids Challenge. This challenge focuses on giving up a non healthy item such as fast food and putting that money toward giving back.
As soon as I found out about partnering with these companies, I knew exactly who I would be donating the food to. In our community we have an organization that is there to help those in need or simply going through difficult times called Broken Arrow Neighbors.
Broken Arrow Neighbors assists in a variety of ways including food, clothing, prescription care, and many more. I immediately noticed that they feed over 9,000 families! That is a lot of food needed, and I was sure that anything I could donate would help. Even better with Jennie-O products you are giving nutritious meats like turkey that are perfect for growing children!
I headed over to Walmart to shop for Jennie-O products that would make healthy meals!
I was shocked with how affordable the Jennie-O products were. I started calculating what we spend just with random stops by the gas station or to fast food places throughout the week. If we were to cut out those random stops we could easily give back this amount of food each week! I really had to ask myself, how important is that sprite and candy bar?
I loaded up my cart with turkey dinners, turkey sausage, turkey hot dogs, and ground turkey. I was really impressed with the turkey dinners, this was the first time that I had ever shopped for these. At just under $4.00 you get a 3 lb Turkey with Gravy! The thoughts of Thanksgiving dinner made easy year round were going through my head at this point!
By the time I was checking out, I really felt like I was loading up for just a few dollars! Plus, if you are a couponer and watch for coupons throughout the year that would cut back the cost even more. If you would like to see my entire shop, head over to my Google + story!
I am challenging each of you to Make the Switch and give up something that may not be all that healthy like those stops to pick up your favorite drink and candy bar, put that money in a jar then go shopping for healthy food products and give back.
It only takes one person to encourage friends and family to join in and together we can reach a million!
Stay tuned as I will be following up later in the month to see how you all are doing with your switch, plus giving you an update including more about donating to Broken Arrow Neighbors.
Be sure and find out more on the Champions for Kids Website or on Twitter and Facebook as well as the Jennie-O Website.
