I had a challenge this week from Elmer’s to make a holiday craft using an Elmer’s Craftbond product. I originally thought I would make a holiday recipe box. Then, as I was setting out to make that, I changed my mind! I started thinking of all the cute recipe cards I could make plus all those in the family, like my grandma, who do not regularly see my website.
I thought the perfect gift for her would be a book of holiday recipe cards with some of my favorite recipes plus a few blank ones for her to add. The more I worked on this the more I realized what a great gift idea this would be especially for older kids to make for family members as well.
These may be appearing in all the stockings on Christmas Eve in our family this year!
I started off heading to Walmart to pick up my Elmer’s Craftbond Glue Adhesive. This was the top of my list and what I planned to use to adhere everything, and it worked. So well in fact I glued my fingers together as well as my phone screen had a nice coat too! Whoops!
Once I had my products out in front of me, it was pretty simple from there.
Supplies:
- Elmer’s Craftbond Spray Adhesive
- Elmer’s Journal Pen
- White Ruled Index Cards
- Rings to hold book together
- Stickers, Buttons, Decorating Items
- Hole Punch
- Ribbon
- Shears or X-Acto Scissors with various designs
- Holiday Scrapbook Paper
I started by laying out the index card then cutting strips of paper with shears or you can use the X-acto Scissors too! I failed to grab some at the store!
Then, I just got creative adding the stickers and the little buttons that clip on to the cards. I made 8 different designs plus a cover that said ‘Recipes’ on it. The cover, I just adhered a piece of scrapbook paper on top of the index card then decorated it. This is where you can get creative and have your kids help too.
I used the Elmer’s Craftbond Spray Adhesive on just about everything including the stickers. I wanted to be sure they were not going to fall off and most of them were 3D so I secured them well.
These stickers that I purchased were my favorite they were almost like cardboard and 3D which gave it a nice visual appeal.
Once I had all my cards decorated, I went online and picked a few of my favorite recipes and used the Elmer’s Journal Pen to write them out on the cards.
The next thing I did was make a hole punch in the corner of each card, then I just slid it on the ring to make it a book. I also tied a ribbon to the ring just to give it a little extra special touch.
Perfect homemade gift for the aspiring cook or baker in your family!
