In this article, you will learn how to make Ninja Foodi Rice in a few short steps!
I’ve always been one to grab a box of quick-cooking rice, but lately, I’m finding that I actually prefer Jasmine Rice. I love the taste and texture, plus it’s SO EASY to make in the Ninja Foodi Multi-Cooker.
For this recipe, I am going to be focusing on Jasmine Rice; however, you can find the cooking time for almost every variety of rice in this Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooking Guide.
What is Jasmine Rice?
Jasmine Rice is white rice and it’s perfect for stir fry recipes and a variety of others. We use it regularly now in our Honey Garlic Chicken and Sesame Chicken.
If you prefer whole-grain brown rice, according to the Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooking chart, that would need to be cooked for 15 minutes on high pressure then naturally released for 10 minutes.
Jasmine Rice is only going to take 3 minutes of cooking time, which makes it very quick rice to whip up.
Tips for Making Ninja Foodi Rice:
When making rice in the Ninja Foodi it’s a 1:1 ratio. In this recipe, I use 2 cups of Jasmine Rice and 2 cups of water. If you want to add more flavor to your rice, you can replace the water with broth instead.
It’s absolutely imperative to let it naturally release for 10 minutes. Why?
Well, you will end up with a mess on your hands if you do not because once you release the valve on top of the pressure cooker lid, it will spew liquid EVERYWHERE if you do not let it go back down first by naturally releasing it.
It’s also delicious with some butter adding in or a little olive oil spray, whichever you prefer. We like to add some additional flavor to the rice.
Now it’s time to try this Ninja Foodi Rice!

First of all, I love the blog so far 🙂
Just discovered it since I recently purchased a ninja and been on the look for delicious recipes, so thanks for the great work.
I do have a question: When I do my rice like this (even with slightly more water), it somehow does not switch from PRE to the actual 3 minutes and always says “add water”
Im doing everything as suggested, maybe you have a clue what Im doing wrong
Thanks in advance and keep up the great work!
Cheers from Germany
If you are using these exact measurements, I would contact Ninja directly because it should not be doing that. These measurements here are the same as their guide, so it shouldn’t prompt you to do that especially if you are adding a little more anyway.
Make sure you close the valve and the rubber seal is tight. I had that problem when I first started. Forgot to close it all the way and the steam just leaked out. Opps.
Mine worked fine with one cup of water and rice…. Maybe it’s your Ninja
What is the green herb that you have added to the top of your pressure cooked jasmine rice??
I added parsley on top.
I’m fairly new to pressure cooking and to my Ninja Foodi, so can you please give me the specific steps you take after setting the Foodi to Seal? Here are the steps I followed:
1) I set timer to 3 minutes and pressed Start, but I didn’t see a countdown. ??
2) Nothing happened after 3 minutes (I thought there would be a beep or something), so I pressed Keep Warm.
3) I pressed Time button again. This time, for 10 minutes. This time, I DID see a countdown.
4) After 10 minutes were up, the Foodi beeped.
5) I switched lever to Vent, but I wasn’t sure how long to wait before attempting to open lid; I tried after a minute or so, but lid was still forced to “Lock” position. A safety measure, I assume.
6) Certain I did something wrong, I then HELD lever to Vent to speed up venting process.
7) Once I didn’t hear any more venting (about 2 minutes later), the lid released, and I was able to open it.
8) Rice came out good. Just a tad sticky, but not mushy or undercooked. I’ve NEVER successfully made white rice before, so hopefully the “tad sticky” is normal.
Once you select manual pressure and the time it should automatically start building pressure, this can take a while then it will start the countdown. The nozzle will then get moved to vent and it does take some time to fully release. I always get impatient during that part. It takes a bit to get used to but you will get used to it and love it!!
If I want to cook more rice, let’s say 5 cups, I know the rice to water ration is the same but would the settings be the same? Thank you.
I would still use the same settings.
Hi Kristy, I found your blog while researching what type of pressure cooker to get my daughter for christmas. Do you have the Ninja® Foodi® 14-in-1 8-qt. XL Pressure Cooker Steam Fryer with SmartLid? My daughter mentioned she might like an “insta pot” or an air fryer and I found this Ninja that seems to be an all in one set up. Just wondering if you like it. It looks huge… I’ll definitely direct her to your blog once I’ve figured out what to get her.
This is the newest one that just came out, mine is basically the same but the older version. It does it all in one, so def worth it in my opinion. It’ll pressure cook and air fry, even bakes and does slow cooking too.
You have to get the 15 in 1. Its amazing ! Even has hands free pressure release.
2 cups of rice egual 2 cups cooked rice? So 4 1/2 cup servings.
2 cups of uncooked jasmine rice usually comes out to about 5-6 cups prepared. I will update to clarify.
Awesome! Thanks a lot I will cook the two cups then and have leftover. Just dint want to have two little. A again thank you
If I want to make 4 cups of jasmine rice is it still 3 min?? Or how much longer? Thanks
I would prob try it with the same time.
love your recipes and the fact that they are easily accessible. I will continue to use your website to find wonderful recipes.. I am new to Ninja cooking so I will post when I actually make something…
Absolutely perfect!! I used chicken broth and the flavor was awesome!!! Thank you for the ratios!!!
Once the rice is cooked, can it remain in the Ninja Foodi to keep it warm?
Yes you could keep it there to stay warm.
I have cooked rice for 3 minutes in my ninja foodi pressure cooker let it do a full release 5 different times. It is never cooked and there is water left. I was wondering if altitude has anything to do with it. Is it my foodi? Why do I always need to almost double my cook time. Help. A rice lover
I’m honestly not sure b/c I’ve never had water left. The altitude could make a difference, and you’re sure it’s fully sealed too? If so, I would call Ninja directly, they have a good customer service line and there may be something wrong with the machine itself.
Do you need to rinse the rice?
You can if you prefer.
First of all I must say that you have been a God send when it comes to cooking with my Ninja Foodi. I’ve had it for 2 years but have really just got into using it. Whenever I want to cook something or need an idea, I just punch in the ingredients or whatever and I look for your recipes. I used my Ninja to cook rice last week and as usual I looked for your recipe and as usual it was perfect. So now I can cook perfect rice. Thanks for sharing your knowledge to help us less talented folks cook like pros for our families.
hello, can you do med instead of high?
I’ve always done high but I’m sure you can try it on medium, it may or may not work though on that so you’d have to test it.
It keeps informing me to add more water?
Add about 1/2 cup if it is saying that; however, be sure your nozzle is fully sealed and no steam is coming out that is causing it to say add water.
Thank you. I love the name of the blog. : )
For an adult male that never cared to learn how to cook but realizes it is an important skill in life to learn, just reading the name of the blog helped me realized that you would keep your recipes simple, fast, and tasty!
Thank you, I did the rice and it came out good for the first time. I will definitely be checking out other recipes you have.
All the luck to you.
