Have you had your Inside Out movie night yet? My son and I spotted it at Walmart this past week, and instantly had a movie night on our calendar! I love this movie, love, love…love it. My favorite part in the movie is that they show so well how with sadness comes joy.
Sometimes it’s okay to be sad. It’s part of life and sad things happen in life, but almost always you can find joy in sadness. I think that’s such a crucial thing to learn and remember not only as an adult but as a child going through life. Childhood is what shapes our future and remembering that it’s okay to feel different emotions and express them in the appropriate ways is necessary to learn.
In saying that, my son and I decided a movie watch party was in order, that meant all the necessities! We stopped by Walmart and picked up several Inside Out figurines to use on our Inside Out themed cake. Then, we found good ole Bing Bong. I thought it was only fitting that he be surrounded by candy, he does cry candy tears. Wouldn’t it be great if all our tears produced candy? Instant JOY!
The cake was my favorite part of the party, I decided to layer it with a variety of colored cakes that went with the Inside Out theme, then I topped it with white icing and the figurines. I also added colored icing in between each layer. It was a beautiful rainbow perfection that could get all your emotions going! Just remember to make this cake, all you need to do is purchase the different colors of cake mix, which you can find at Walmart. Then, I used colored frosting in between the layers. I did a crumb coat of vanilla frosting and let it chill in the fridge for several hours, and once it was done I did the last coat of vanilla icing. Once it was iced, I added sprinkles and the figurines! That’s it…so simple!
We did themed fruit along with juice too, plus my daughter and son helped with the candy dipped marshmallows. I used candy melts in the various colors and these can be found at Walmart. My almost 3 year old daughter did almost all of these. I have to say, I’m impressed! I know this may be a simple job but she has a knack in the kitchen and she’s not even 3 yet. I won’t lie though, I did look over and she was dipping them in the candy and then eating them shortly after. We were missing a few marshmallows and she was covered in yellow candy…guilty!
Lastly, I know my kids love to color, so we decided to print off some coloring sheets with crayons for all the kids to enjoy while the movie was going.
Then, my son had to showcase all his emotions! He cracks me up and quickly brings me joy…although he can cause me to go through all the emotions in seconds at times too.
Are you ready to party? It’s time to have a very special movie night with Inside Out! Head over to Walmart today and pick up your copy along with these fun toys!

The dipped marshmallows look awesome! That was a great way to add color to your party!!! — I am jealous I didn’t think of that!
Great Inside Out party! I love the cake and the marshmallows. I can’t believe she’s 3 already. That can’t be right, can it? It’s pretty impressive that she’s old enough to make dipped marshmallows. #client
