Growing up, I had the luxury of having my grandparents right around the block from us. It was pretty fantastic as a child being able to just run over to grandma’s house any time we wanted to get out of our own house. That happens, right?
I mean she had an entire playroom of toys for us, so if we were bored at our house then we just went to her house.
My grandma always seemed like she was ready for entertaining as far as food goes when we came over too. She was never without good snacks!
We always knew it was time for the holidays, as soon as we walked in the door the smell of holiday treats filled the air.
I remember every year her table would be lined with every single kind of fudge you could possibly imagine.
It was her thing, she made fudge and goop along with a variety of other treats then she packaged it and delivered it to everyone in the family.
She was 1 of 16! I would say you find creative gift ideas when you have that many siblings and that’s exactly what she did!
When my grandpa got sick, we moved my grandparents into a retirement home. Now many years later, my grandma is still very active but since she moved there she no longer cooks like she once did.
She just calls me and tells me what she needs and I make it for her. So, each year I have tried my hardest to make that fudge that I remember but it never works…never.
I just can’t seem to do it like she did. It never sets up right at all. I crave that fudge with everything in me and yet I just can’t seem to get it…until now.
This past week, for the first time I tried the NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Famous Fudge Kit, I had really never thought to use a kit. The thing is, it worked! It was SO good. I actually sent it with my husband to work because I ate so much, I just had to stop!
How do you make Peppermint Mocha Fudge with Carnation Famous Fudge Kit?
The kit comes with everything you need except the candy canes will need to be purchased separately. There is also no candy thermometer needed, so you can do it without one!
It tasted just like the base she used in hers then she would add to it and make different flavors.
I’m sure it isn’t exactly as she made it but for me it worked, and I finally found a fudge that I can make well. I decided to add crushed candy canes to the top of my fudge then I cut it up and put it in a decorative tin.
I’m already planning to give these to my son’s teachers as part of the goodie baskets for them. This is such a great gift and so incredibly easy to make.
I’m also making a tin of it for my grandma, I know she will be as excited as I am about finding a fudge that taste similar to hers.
Now are you ready for a bite because I sure am!
