Like it simple! Onion Soup Chicken and Potatoes sound yummy…Will try it soon!
It looks deliceous! I want to try this recipe tonight? Do I put the chicken in the crock pot frozen or thawed? Thanks!
I put mine in slightly defrosted but you can do it either way.
You typically shouldn’t put frozen items into a slow cooker as it keeps the food in the bacteria danger zone for an extended period. For this recipe, I think using the frozen green beans is passable since beans are small/thin and will thaw quickly. I used them myself. Frozen chicken, however, will take much longer to thaw and might be dangerous. I’d thaw it completely before cooking. Anyway… trying this for my boys tonight. Thanks for the recipe. (yes, men read this blog too)
I have been using my crockpot/slow cooker for 35 years, never thawed anything prior to cooking. I’m still alive . I think it’s a personal preference. As long as your meat reaches the required internal temperature to kill any bacteria, you should be fine.
I do agree, it all comes down to what you prefer and it just needs to be cooked enough of course.
I put a little extra water, and didn’t taste any french onion.
Trying this tonight. I used boneless chicken breasts. I’m cooking on high, I don’t have 8 hours. Started a bit late. How long do you think it will take? I do have 6hrs. Should I still put it on high?
I apologize I just saw this! So I’m guessing you are done now. 🙂 Usually if you do it on high, you will do 1/2 the cook time as you would on low.
How much water? Do you need to cover the entire chicken?
We use 1 cup of water.
Do I peel the potatoes
I don’t, but you can if you prefer.
Can you use chicken broth/chicken stock instead of water
Yes, you can do that.
I added half of the potatoes and added carrots and green beans. And it was really YUMMY.
