Do your kids come home ready for a snack? Mine sure do! I guess I have to expect it though because they both eat around 11:00 AM, that makes for a very long day without anything else to eat. I know I would be hungry by then too. The issue we have had with snacks though lately is that I need them to eat something light that will keep them satisfied until dinner time, but not overdo it. I noticed that they got in a habit of never wanting dinner because they came home ready for snacks and kept on snacking. Now, I regulate the snacking after school. One way that I make it tasty for them though is by serving these Peanut Butter Cup Protein Balls.
I have found it’s best to get them a snack that has a boost of protein, plus of course it has to be pretty tasty too. We headed our to Walmart and picked up a bag of the Malt O’ Meal Peanut Butter Cups and I was on my way to making Peanut Butter Cup Protein Balls. The idea behind these is just the same as a traditional protein ball but instead of using oats, I used cereal. This cereal is delicious, plus it contains no high fructose corn syrup.
We have just recently started purchasing more Malt O’ Meal cereals, my kids love cereal and I love how inexpensive Malt O’ Meal is plus how large the bag is. I can easily keep it on stock for a few weeks with two kids eating it each day too. That means it’s much more budget friendly for us too.
I made about 18 of these protein balls and still had plenty of cereal left to last us quite a while for breakfast as well. My son’s go-to for breakfast is cereal and milk and he loves how well the peanut butter mixes with the milk using the Peanut Butter Cup cereal. The benefit for us as moms is that the majority of Post Cereals feature whole grains, essential vitamins and minerals, plus no high fructose corn syrup.
As soon as my kids came in from school they both went for the Peanut Butter Cup Protein Balls and enjoyed them with a glass of milk. It was a great way to end a school day, plus then begin on homework. Sometimes I feel like their school days just don’t end, do you ever feel like that? Maybe it’s just me?
The good thing is they at least have a great snack while hitting the books.
What is your favorite Malt O’ Meal cereal? I’d love to hear it!
