What ingredients do you need for a Blueberry Oat Smoothie?
- Fresh Blueberries or Frozen Blueberries
- Gluten-Free Old Fashioned Oats or Regular Old Fashioned Oats
- Honey
- Peanut Butter
- Vanilla Yogurt or Vanilla Greek Yogurt
Optional Ingredients – Non-Dairy Milk such as Coconut Milk or Almond Milk, Other Berries, Spinach or Kale
How to Make Blueberry Oatmeal Smoothie:
Blueberry Oatmeal Smoothie is so easy to make, simply use your blender and ingredients to blend this up into a delicious creamy smoothie.
- Add the oats to the blender and grind into a powder.
- Add in the remaining ingredients and blend well to make a smoothie.
- Pour and serve.
Why do you add oatmeal to a smoothie?
Adding oatmeal to the smoothie gives it a thicker texture, but it also will be a good filler to keep you full longer throughout the morning. When using old-fashioned oats or rolled oats, they have a high nutritional value that adds extra fiber and complex carbs to your smoothie. The oats will be blended first to a dust-like powder so that they are not too thick in the smoothie.
After the oats are pulsed in the high-powered blender a few times, they will turn to fine powder and that will allow you to have a smooth texture in your smooth. Then, the remaining ingredients will be added to the smoothie this will be blueberries, yogurt, peanut butter, and honey.
Once it’s complete, just blend and the smoothie is done.
What if the smoothie is too thick?
If the smoothie is too thick, add a few tablespoons of water, milk, or almond milk to thin it out just a bit. This will only be 1-2 tablespoons. Then, it’s time to pour in a glass and serve!
Variations of Blueberry Oat Smoothies:
- Make it Green – Add spinach or kale for a green smoothie, remember you will not taste the green!
- Swap the Berries – If blueberry isn’t your thing, try raspberries or strawberries, or even a mix!
- Boost the Protein – Add additional protein powder to boost the protein.
- Make it Dairy-Free – Use dairy-free yogurt instead and make it dairy-free!
- Adjust the Sweetness – Make it a little more or less sweet by adjusting the honey or using agave.
How do you store and meal prep Blueberry Oatmeal Smoothies?
Blueberry Oatmeal Smoothies can be made in advance, then place them in a sealed freezer-safe jar in the freezer for up to 24 hours. When ready to eat, just let it defrost at room temperature and shake it back up before serving.
This recipe also makes for a great overnight oats option, just skip the blending and combine the ingredients in a jar along with 1/2 cup of almond milk. Stir them up and let them sit overnight and eat in the morning.
This smoothie can also be poured into a bowl for a smoothie bowl and topped with nuts, coconut flakes, and granola.

Absolutely delicious! I have been making this for a while now. Initially I tried to alter it a bit but once I made it it per the recipe it has become an instant favorite for my daughter and I and saves us from spending $20 at the fancy smoothie store! I will admit I do add extra blueberries, but only because they are just soo good!
