Enjoy a delicious drink with this Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie!
This past month has been quite the journey for us as we navigate our son’s diet. He has had stomach issues since he was a baby, originally the culprit was dairy. We tried a variety of things and he ended up on an allergy free formula, he did not actually drink regular milk until he was 3. At age 3, he seemed to be able to handle regular milk just fine, but this past year he has been complaining of stomach issues regularly.
We decided to do the elimination diet over the past month, taking out gluten completely and then limiting dairy to basically what he had as a baby. (Note – MorningStar Farms Sausages are not gluten free.) He has always seemed to handle cheese relatively fine but just milk in a glass was always an issue. It has been trial and error as I try to find an alternative to cow’s milk this past month. I have tried just about everything then this past week I brought home Silk Chocolate Soymilk. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting him to like this one either because he had turned down everything else up to this point.
The shocker? I had to tell him to SLOW DOWN when he was drinking it. He was in LOVE with it. My husband and I were doing a little happy dance that we finally found an alternative to cow’s milk for him that he can actually handle, plus it has just as many health benefits as regular milk.
VICTORY!
Did you know that Soy is the only plant protein that is actually considered a ‘complete’ protein? It’s true. Basically is has all 9 essential amino acids that are needed for health and well-being.
Another perk to him loving Soymilk is there are a variety of flavors too, of course his favorite is chocolate.
To celebrate, I decided to make him a Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie with his new favorite milk. I also picked up MorningStar Farms Sausages for my husband for a quick breakfast in the morning.
The smoothie is super simple using only Chocolate Soymilk, Banana, and Strawberries, and then blending it with ice. My kids absolutely love these. If you really like a more green smoothie, you can toss in spinach too. The great thing with spinach is you cannot taste it in the smoothie.
Of course one of the best things about Silk Soymilk is that I can replace it equally in every recipe calling for dairy if needed! This makes for a simple, affordable switch.
Are you ready for a tasty smoothie this morning? Sip away and celebrate National Soyfoods Month!
