Cinnamon Topped Poached Pears make for a delicious dessert.
Have you ever had poached pears? I’ll admit up until I made this recipe the thought never even crossed my mind. I was denied this wonderful creation all these years, not anymore, friends.
These poached pears are very simple to make and absolutely delicious, they make for a healthy snack. My entire family enjoyed this snack. I poached the pairs using a cranberry apple juice as the liquid, then I paired them alongside vanilla Greek yogurt, topped with granola and cinnamon.
Delightful, right?
We sure thought so.
I decided to use Yellow Bartlett Pears to make this dish. The poaching process is simple, you can either peel the pears or leave the peel on, then you warm up your liquid on the stove-top until it gets to a nice boil. Once it is boiling, drop the pears in and let them simmer and cook for about 15-20 minutes until they are soft.
I used a slotted spoon to remove the pears, carefully being sure that you keep them intact. These can be paired alongside yogurt as I did or even served with just a little sprinkle of cinnamon. I think they would even taste good topped over a bowl of steel cut oats for breakfast.
Pears are in season right now so that means they are very affordable at the store. Now remember that if you apply gentle pressure to the neck of the pear and it yields to that pressure, it’s ripe! The great part about poaching is you can easily use under ripe or over ripe pears too. Poached Pears can be made using a simple wine and sugar mixture or you can mix it up choosing your own liquid as I did.
What type of liquid would you want to use to poach pears?
