This Rainbow Sherbet Punch will hit the spot at every party! This recipe is simple, the perfect sherbet punch with vibrant colors. It’s a classic sherbet punch recipe.
Rainbow Sherbet Punch is one of our all-time favorite sherbet punch recipes. It has been used for birthday parties, holiday gatherings such as Christmas, baby showers, and summer get-togethers for many years. We always knew when we went to grandma’s house, and we’d see Rainbow Sherbet Punch on the table, it was going to be a great party! This punch recipe is the punch recipe that grandma used to make, and it’s a must to pass on to the next generation. This recipe uses sherbet, Sprite, and Hawaiian Punch.

My grandma was known for her punch and now I serve it at all of our parties too. It’s also simple to get creative with a variety of different additions to this punch recipe. This punch is used for our holiday celebrations like Christmas, Easter, and Valentine’s Day.
It only uses 3 ingredients and is simple to make just before guests arrive. It’s full of flavor, and yes, it does have a lot of sugar too, but given that it’s for a party, you’ll be just fine.
Check out even more Sherbet Punch Recipes, these are perfect for the holidays.
What you will LOVE about this Recipe:
- Only THREE ingredients!
- It’s Kid-Friendly, so everyone can enjoy it!
- It’s versatile, we’ve used it at every holiday and birthday party for years, but it’s great for showers too!
What Punch Ingredients do you need to make Rainbow Sherbet Punch?

Rainbow Sherbet Punch is made with just 3 ingredients:
- Hawaiian Fruit Punch
- Sprite
- Rainbow Sherbet
That’s it! Once you have these 3 ingredients, you simply add equal parts of Hawaiian Punch and Sprite to the punch bowl and top it with the Rainbow Sherbet. Sprite has always been the best lemon-lime soda to use, do not use club soda as there is no sweetness, and it will not taste the same.
The punch ingredients will be combined into a large punch bowl with equal parts, stir together, and then use an ice cream scoop to scoop the sherbet into the punch bowl. We keep the carton on hand to add scoop as needed when serving.
How should you garnish this easy punch recipe?
If you prefer to garnish the punch, it can be garnished with flavors that will enhance the sherbet, such as fresh fruit, strawberries, or raspberries. The best garnish, though, is the sherbet ice cream right on top!

Why do you have to use Sherbet Ice Cream for Sherbet Punch?
Using sherbet is a must as it foams up with the carbonation of the soda and gives the right consistency and texture with punch. The sherbet will create the fizzing on top of the punch.
Sherbet is made with fruit and water, it does have dairy too but not at the same level as traditional ice cream, which is not the same. To get vibrant colors, use Rainbow Sherbet; however, Orange Sherbet, Lemon-Lime Sherbet, Strawberry Sherbet, or Raspberry Sherbet will work just as well. The flavor of sherbet will directly enhance the flavor of your punch.
So if you are making sherbet punch or this Rainbow Sherbet Punch…don’t skip the actual ‘sherbet. ‘ It will not turn out the same without a traditional sherbet.

Rainbow Sherbet Punch is ALWAYS the hit of every party and will be for yours too. It’s a colorful, fun addition, with the perfect level of sweetness and even considered to be a great Unicorn Punch too if you are looking for that for an upcoming party.
If you are looking for even more punch recipes, this Lemonade Punch is a great one too. It’s one we used at a baby shower, too.
What punch bowl should you use?
I also wanted to share this punch bowl too, this is a more updated version of the one I use, Anchor Hocking Presence Cake Dome Set. This is a large punch bowl and perfect to use for the sherbet punch.
This one can be used as a punch bowl, cake stand, or for trifle desserts. So I like to use it for a variety of options.
Can you add Alcohol to Sherbet Punch?

Our punch has always been served kid-friendly, but you can make an adult version with a little bit of rum or vodka.
How do you store sherbet punch?
The punch can be prepped ahead by combining the soda with the fruit punch. Place a plastic wrap over the punch bowl and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. When ready to serve, add the sherbet.
Use a ladle to carefully pour the punch into your favorite glass with this great original recipe with a delicious taste.

I thought a photo of my grandma with her punch in hand just fit so well with this classic sherbet punch recipe. This was decades ago, but even as she’s passed on, we still enjoy it at every party!
Rainbow Sherbet Punch is Grandma’s classic sherbet punch recipe. This punch is perfect to serve at Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Bridal Showers, Baby Showers, Birthday Parties, and festive events. It only requires simple ingredients and will end up being your favorite party punch recipe! Time to enjoy this delicious punch!

This is so pretty!!! Love it!
Beth@Weavings says
Love it! I make something similar, but I use Minute Maid Fruit Punch and usually use Dt. Sprite/Sierra Mist/7-Up. I use Rainbow Sherbert or Raspberry Sherbert. Either way I get rave reviews about it! With the sugar in the punch and sherbert no one notices that the pop is diet and though not sugar-free it helps cut the sugar for those who are diabetics.

How much does it take for 80 people?
Heather Hearsey says
1 gallon of each should give you 32 – 12oz. servings

Typically 1 punch bowl serves about 24 people, I’d probably triple the recipe just to have extra just in case. We usually refill the punch bowl as ours goes down for parties.

My grandpa did this punch every Christmas! He didn’t do it one year cause he thought nobody liked it but then I asked for it and he got so happy lol. Only difference is he adds both sprite and seven up I believe
Crystal Martin says
Very pretty! This is basically the same recipe my mom always made. She used Hawaiian Punch, Ginger ale and Lime Sherbet. If she couldn’t get lime, then she’d use Rainbow. It was always gone in minutes. I bet it tastes very similar to yours.
Sharon says
To make it even tastier, throw in some canned pineapple juice and frozen orange juice concentrate. Then you will have my family’s traditional punch recipe. Sometimes I add frozen lemonade, too. Yum!
Kristy says
YUM!!! I am trying that next time I make it!

We use equal parts depending on the size of the bowl. The juice that I use is already made like this – https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hawaiian-Punch-Fruit-Juicy-Red-Juice-1-Gal-Bottle/10535476?fulfillmentIntent=Pickup&filters=%5B%7B%22intent%22%3A%22fulfillmentIntent%22%2C%22values%22%3A%5B%22Pickup%22%5D%7D%5D&athbdg=L1200&from=/search

Based on the punch bowl size you use, you will pour the sprite in halfway then finish the other half of the bowl with punch.

We always had a version of this when we had any family get together while my Mom was alive. The only difference in ours was that we used Ginger Ale as the soda part. It was always a hit with everyone. Delicious! Have not had it in years and I do miss it. Could drink the whole bowl my self.

What a wonderful punch that is also kid-friendly! I might have to serve your punch this summer when we have our annual cookout (and maybe have a spiked version for the adults… heh heh).

Haha!! That’s a great way to doctor it up for adults. 😉

Thank you so much. This is just what I was looking for. Though I don’t have the bananas ready, so I will just use frozen blackbery/raspberry/blueberry mix, and pineapples. Hope it works! It looks delicious!

Can u mix the punch up and put in a cooler

I live alone and punch is my weakness. How can I make multiple serving to put in the freezer to enjoy whenever I want some? I know not to add the Sprite until serving. Any suggestion is appreciated.
Mommy Hates Cooking says
You could probably freeze the fruit punch with a scoop of sherbet.
Colleen Wagner says
Just take a can of soda and whatever punch/fruit juice you like. Pour equal parts in a big glass, like you would for a root beer float. Then plop some sherbet on top. One big, individual serving of punch for you enjoy
Shelly says
Gorgeous looking punch! It sounds so delicious too. Can’t wait to try these, everyone will love them.
Mariana Rauen says
Omg I love how it tastes. It’s like a party in your mouth.

olivia says
love!!
Joyce says
How many people will one punch bowl serve?
Mommy Hates Cooking says
It’s going to depend on the serving size of the cups, but normally 20-30. If I have a lot (more than 30) of people coming, I usually buy an extra gallon of the pop to refill the bowl, I normally have a huge jug of Hawaiian Punch that I can use to refill it throughout the party too if needed.
Robert Womack says
Can I just add the whole half gallon of sherbet to the bowl then pour punch and Sprite over it?
Mommy Hates Cooking says
Yes you can.
Elon Klein says
Thank you for your post, I really like your post. aalikinfo
Millie says
can the hawaiian punch be replaced with something else?
Mommy Hates Cooking says
I’ve only done this with hawaiian punch, so I’m not sure what else would work in place of that.
Emma says
How much sherbet do I use?
Mommy Hates Cooking says
Enough to cover the top of the punch bowl, then add more as needed if it melts.
Brandi Dowden says
How much exactly of all the ingredients ? And is it considered too sweet for diabetics?
Mommy Hates Cooking says
I do half and half when using a punch bowl so it’s going to vary depending on what size punch bowl you use. It’s a lot of sugar, you could probably do some sugar free or zero sugar sprite, but you’d have to adapt it for your specific needs.
norma hasch says
How much sherbet, sprite and punch do I need for 50 people
Mommy Hates Cooking says
I would probably get 2-3 of each to have on hand for back up to refill the punch bowl throughout your party.
Paula says
I haven’t had Rainbow Sherbet Punch in ages. I can’t wait to make this.
Thank you so much for sharing with Sweet Tea & Friend’s this month.

RICHARD DAVID FAHRNER says
TERRIFIC!! TRIED IT AND VARIATIONS OOH SO GOOD!
Sandra says
would fresh fruit be ok to add, and what kind?
Mommy Hates Cooking says
I haven’t tried it but if I did I’d probably do strawberries maybe freeze them so they stay cold.
Steven says
Our favorite holiday punch!
Janet says
I have made this before and I froze some of the punch in ice cube tray or small container to keep cold without diluting regular ice.
Mommy Hates Cooking says
That’s a fantastic idea!
