After many years, we finally brought the back patio to life with a quick update!
When my husband and I go on dates, there is one place that I told him had to be off limits…the home improvement store. Why? We can’t help ourselves, we end up with a HUGE new project or spending all of our savings to update something else in our home. It just never fails.
So in our true fashion, although I said “no home improvement store”, we decided to run in and grab a can of paint on our date day. Now, what else did we come out with? An entire array of patio furniture!
We have been looking for new patio furniture for a long time now. The set we had was from probably 1980, maybe earlier? It was a garage sale find of my parents many years ago. Then, when we got our first house, they bought new furniture and gave us ours. Let’s just say it had it’s use out of it. The legs on the table were wearing down and one had broke off.
The issue? We eat outside and spend the majority of our time outdoors. We also like to entertain outside too, so it was a must to get some new furniture. The only issue is I couldn’t bring myself to pay so much for it. Have you priced patio furniture? Goodness, it’s as much as indoor furniture and really, it’s going to get wet and worn out by the sun! I just couldn’t wrap my mind around spending so much.
Thankfully, we are cheap and we waited. We walked in the store to find that it wasn’t just on sale, it was discounted because it was the last set on the floor. So basically it was the floor sample for the season. Then, we negotiated with the salesman and we got it even lower than what it was marked. I didn’t even know you could do that at a big box store, who knew?! We made out with a an outdoor loveseat, table, and coffee table for right around $250. I thought that was a great deal considering it was almost $1000 new! We got somewhere around 80% off. I was happy and our chairs for the patio were pretty new, so we were able to reuse those too.
I just love how the patio turned out, we’ve used it almost everyday since we changed up the furniture. It’s just so much more inviting. It actually made it feel a lot bigger with 3 distinct seating areas. We can eat at the table and relax on the sofa. Our dogs seemed to like it just as much as we do!
Of course, now my husband has more plans. We are hoping to get it covered eventually and then add a TV back there too. He fully intends to enjoy some football on the patio with the fire nearby and fresh air. So that’s the next thing we will do out there. We’ve had such a hard time though getting quotes to cover it, funny how contractors never seem to come back or follow up? I’m still trying to wrap my mind around how they get business, but I’ll just save that for another post.
In the meantime, I’d love it if it weren’t getting dark early now but good thing we have lights! I’m still going to enjoy it even in the cold!
Happy Tuesday!
