If you are in or around the Oklahoma area and looking for a great little getaway then I suggest you check out Lake Eufaula State Park.
It’s a great way to escape from the everyday grind and relax a bit.
The past several years, we tend to always head to the lake for the 4th of July weekend, it’s a great way to relax and kick back a bit, plus we LOVE watching the fireworks out on the water. This year, we decided to redeem our trip from last year to Lake Eufaula State Park.
Last year, when we were on our 4th of July trip, the first night our daughter started to get very ill.
We thought at the time that she was dehydrated, so we made sure she got hydrated and thought we would wait it out a bit overnight. Around 3am that morning, she woke up with 104* temperature and was just not with it at all.
Our parent instincts kicked in, we knew at that point something was wrong and it wasn’t just being dehydrated.
We ended up in 2 ERs that night and the following day. We found out that she was nearly to a sepsis point due to a kidney infection.
It’s safe to say at that point our trip was over, so we packed up and went home to get her better and to recover. A few months later she had the same issue.
This time we ended up admitted to the hospital where it was discovered that she actually had urinary reflux and her kidneys were not functioning as they should.
She ended up with a procedure in May to correct the problem and so far she’s being doing well ever since. I am going to keep praying that continues and we are thankful this 4th of July everyone was well and able to enjoy all the fun!
What to Expect at Lake Eufaula State Park
When we arrived, we camped out at Dogwood Drive Campground and it was beautiful and quiet! It seemed very family friendly, it wasn’t wild and crazy in the evenings it was exactly what we needed…calm. There was a park nearby and also a laundry area too, which we definitely used. We were close to the bathrooms, which was a nice spot to be with little kids. We even watched as a worker cleaned them several times throughout the day, so they were actually very nice bathrooms for a campground. We also had full hookups too for our camper, so it was easy to feel right at home even when camping.
Things to do at Lake Eufaula State Park
Of course for me, relaxation was key, but at Lake Eufaula State Park they also have many boat ramps to a very large lake with plenty of room to do water activities and not feel crowded by other boaters.
Then, they have a new attraction as well, Jellystone Park. We spent the day there and it was a lot of fun for the kids, so much in fact that I’m hoping to stay there again in one of the cabins.
Our family was even able to come up for the day and spend some time with us as well. It is $10 plus tax per day, then you get access to all the water activities they offer there.
We docked our boat and enjoyed some family fun!
Now, there are plenty of other things to do like hiking trails, disc golf, even stables to ride horses at nearby too. I’m looking forward to coming back in the fall when it’s a bit cooler for spending time around the fire.
They even have an airstrip in case you just happen to have your own plane and want to fly on in! How cool is that?
Ready for a Getaway
Do you go camping with your family? What are some of your favorite campgrounds to stay at? I’d love to hear about them! We are planning to head to Lake Tenkiller next!
