It is time for those tasty, homemade breads and a new one we made recently was this Shredded Wheat Banana Bread. I’m sharing this recipe in partnership with Mom’s Best Cereals, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s so close to fall, just a little under a month away from the official start. I am ready, are you? We really enjoyed summer, but I’m anxious to enjoy some cooler air. We got a bit of a tease of cooler air last week. Something about the fall for us means more family time at home and lots of cooking out. We also always seem to take on home repairs in the fall.
We just updated our kitchen and carpet. Now, we are about to start on new floors throughout the whole house. Hopefully after that, a new door, and a few lights for the house, we will be set for a few more years on any major remodeling. I’m sure I should laugh as I say that because every week I think of something else I want to do!
In the midst of the kitchen chaos, my family was craving some homemade, baked bread. So, I managed to make my way to the oven and find my mixer to whip up this delicious bread. It did not disappoint and was quickly enjoyed by all. I think they were just happy to have a homemade meal, a few days of eating out gets old really quick!
I decided to add an addition to my usual banana bread and top it with Shredded Wheat from Mom’s Best Cereals. I absolutely love using their cereal because it’s free of all those additives like artificial colors and flavors. It’s a better for you option when it comes to cereal. We always have it on hand and trust me it came in handy when we couldn’t actually get in the kitchen to cook either.
For this bread, I crushed some of the cereal to mix in the batter, and then I also topped the bread with Shredded Wheat too. It made for a great addition to banana bread.
As the fall air moves in though, I know we will be baking more and more breads just like this one. Have you tried Shredded Wheat Banana Bread? It’s time to get to start baking!

Interesting! I never would have thought to use shredded wheat in banana bread, but i bet it tastes just as yummy!
This seems … different. When I think of shredded wheat, I think of dry until you add the milk. I would love to see how moist this is and taste it. – Yolonda
This is my first time to encounter a shredded wheat bread recipe. I am so curious about the taste.
What a creative recipe! I would never have thought of using cereal in a bread recipe.
That looks really good! My youngest loves that kind of cereal, so I’m sure she’ll love this too. I would love to try out this bread!
This is such a yummy take on banana bread. I would love to try to make this one, we love shredded wheat!
Wow, that looks so good. I make banana bread often but never tried making it like this before. Definitely trying this out soon.
What?! This looks delicious. I love shredded wheat. I’ve made banana bread many times but I never even considered adding this.
Very good. Very easy. I didn’t have quite enough banana so made up the difference with applesauce
I’m so glad you enjoyed it. That sounds like a great addition to it too!
I did not hsve bananas. So I used applesauce , added a T of Chipotle raspberry sauce, 1\3 package of strawberry Jello dry, pepper and strawberry extract until I liked the flavor. Used a Bundt pan. Now I have strawberry pound cake like goodies. Very moist. I used the Jello as part of the granulated sugar the recipe called for. For the shredded wheat cereal it was PopTart strawberry flavored shredded wheat cereal.
Haven’t tried it yet, but I had a LOT of that shredded wheat crumbs from the bottom of the bag and I had bananas in the freezer just waiting, so I thought, hmm… that might work together! I searched “banana” and “shredded wheat” and voila! Kristi’s recipe!
I just took this out of the oven and it’s wonderful! It came out perfect!
I followed the recipe pretty closely, except I didn’t have any vanilla extract so I substituted a sprinkle of cinnamon on the top and I also added raisins. It’s lovely and delicious! Thanks for this!
So glad I found Kristy’s recipe — I had a LOT of shredded wheat from the cereal bags I buy and a lot of bananas in the freezer. Searched for “shredded wheat” and “banana” and here it was! Thank you!
Very enjoyable way to spend my birthday, too!
So glad to hear that!!
About to make another loaf, but I’m watching my sodium now, my blood pressure has been getting bad. Nutrition information somewhere that I missed?
Just added to the bottom of the recipe card, it will vary based on how big the slices are. I set it for 8 slices.
