A few week’s back, I was scouring Pinterest for ideas for my son’s bedroom and I landed on this Ikea Expedit Bookcase.
As soon as I saw it, I knew I HAD to have it for our play room. Since we have an eat in kitchen, our dining room is our playroom and it is right off the living room which works well for us right now. I headed over to the Ikea website to check it out. It was listed on the website for $199.
We just sold another piece of furniture so I knew that we could purchase it with the money we sold the other one for, but there was one MAJOR problem. We live nowhere near Ikea, and to ship it cost $349! What?! I nearly hit the floor when I saw the shipping.
After a post on Facebook, my friends lead me to Ana-White.com. Then, a quick search on her site lead me to the exact building plans for this 5×5 Cubbies.
Next thing I know, I have my husband working on this project. We went to Lowe’s and we were able to get everything we needed for the project for less than $80. We used leftover paint that we had from repainting last year.
The only change we did from the plans is that instead of simply trimming out the outside of the cubbies, we framed out each individual cubby to give it a thick trim.
I actually LOVE how ours turned out far better than the one I originally wanted.
I have many more projects to come for my husband, thankfully he is quite the handy man!
Oh and for all of those thinking, “Wow, it’s so clean…”, it won’t be that way for long.
Now, you all want to go build something don’t you?
Go to Ana-White.com, it’s my new guilty pleasure!
Disclosure: No one at Ana-White.com knows who I am, a friend recommended the site. I am now officially hooked and we are about to start our next furniture project!
