{Part 4} The Fear Fight...

DISCLAIMER:  These events happened several years ago, I’m just trying to share the back story to get to where I’m going with our story.  Also a side note, my husband does read all of these before I post them.  I do not post anything personal or family related without being sure he’s on board too.  If you want to read the previous post, check out Part 3.

Immediately following the day the cards fell and my husband quit his job, we went into overdrive trying to find him a new job.  On top of that, we were also looking into preschools for our 2 year old son to attend assuming my husband ended up with a day time job.

My husband would be searching and applying for jobs during the day and I would spend all evening searching and applying for jobs for him at night.  It was a joint effort.  In the midst of that, we visited several preschools and found one that was at least 4 days a week.  That was great, but there was still a problem, I worked 5 days!  I kept running into the issue of no one would let you pay for part-time childcare.  I did not need full-time, just part time a few hours a day.

So, we went with an alternative option, having a family member watch our son one day a week then going to preschool the rest of the week at least until the end of summer.  That was our game plan for that moment, next up I had to get the okay from my work to change my hours to fit my son’s preschool schedule.  Then, of course there was the other issue…finding my husband a job!

{Part 4} The Fear Fight

He was overqualified for many of the jobs, which worked in his favor, he went on more interviews in that first week leading up to his official last day than anyone I’ve ever seen.  Then, we started to get offers for employment, but none of them really were what either of us wanted.  There was one job in particular that we felt he would be perfect for and would work well for us, but we had tried in the past to apply him for that job several years back and he never even got an interview.  It had been a while though, so we took a shot and applied him for it.

That’s when God stepped in…or I guess I should say when we noticed that God had gone before us.  Within 24 hours of him applying for that job he had an interview already done.  He was onto his next interview, it was quite an extensive process of interviewing plus physicals and CDL licensing.  The God part was it was all happening so quickly.  Each day another piece fell into place, one by one.  Then, it was official…he was HIRED!  He was hired for this job just a few days short of leaving his current job.  The pay was better than his old job, the hours were better, the benefits were better, it was an all around better job.

{Part 4} The Fear Fight...

Once he started his new job, he realized how much he loved it so much so that he had and still gets multiple questions on if he would consider moving into a supervisor position.  Although that is great for many people and the goal, we have lived that path before and it was a very unhappy one for us.  Some things are not worth the fancy title, so for now, we are both happy where we are.

This job was much more labor and manual work than his past job, which is what he loves.  That meant at this job, another perk…he lost nearly 60 lbs within the first 3 months of this job.  Literally, he seemed like a new person.

{Part 4} The Fear Fight...

He had joy and pep in his step again.  He was back to church regularly, in shape, home with us much more than in the past, and the best part…his phone was not tethered to him anymore.  We had peace, lots and lots of peace.  He had a new found freedom to start doing more of what he loves to do and actually live his life again.

The time was near though, the summer was ending our babysitter would be going back to work.  That meant we were stuck without a babysitter again and back to square one trying to find help with childcare in order for me to keep my job.

This time though, things were different.  I didn’t have peace about my day job anymore.  It was keeping me awake at night as I lay there thinking that I may have my answer right at my finger tips, only I was being held back by one thing…

{Part 4} The Fear Fight...

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Love that I stumbled across your site and have enjoyed it the last year. I feel like I know you. Your latest comment about fear reminded me of a chapter in a Joyce Meyer book. Not sure if you have read her stuff but there are some great chapters in Power Thoughts. Thanks for continuing to share your stories. Your site helps me keep my working and family life a bit more balanced.

It’s funny you mentioned that because my next post touches more on fear and about following Joyce Meyer’s advice and just ‘do it afraid’. 🙂

I haven’t commented on all of these posts but have been leaving them up in my browser and reading them as I take breaks throughout the day. I love it! I love seeing how God has not only made a way for your family to be happy and provided for, but also given you both new strength, perspective, and a closer relationship to Him.
