I have mentioned several times in the last few weeks about lunchtime, specifically for my son! Why is this a big deal? I have to pack lunches every day for him just like many parents and most days I need to keep it quick and easy!
On top of needing quick and easy items, I also have a very picky eater! One thing my son loves are the Mott’s® Snack & Go Applesauce. He absolutely loves these. Now, what do I love about them? They are in a pouch that does not make a mess! These are not only perfect for lunches but also on the go in the car too. He loves applesauce but many times eating the applesauce out of a little container is not realistic when on the go. Also, he makes a mess with it out of a container with a spoon, so I know that sending him with Mott’s® Snack & Go Applesauce makes it much easier on his teachers too.
My favorite part about the Mott’s® Snack & Go Applesauce is that I can buy the natural applesauce that does not have artificial sweeteners, which is the last thing he needs at school! It also a great source of Vitamin C so I know he is getting a good dose of nutrition.
I typically try to get all food groups in his lunch. I struggle though with veggies. My son is just not a veggie eater as much as I try he rejects them. I do hide them well in a few items and need to make more hidden veggie items to keep on hand too.
Along with our applesauce, he usually likes to have cheese or yogurt and pizza cups in his lunch. I make large batches of pizza cups then simply freeze them and reheat them for his lunch. Why do I love these? Hidden veggies! I pack them with spinach and he doesn’t seem to mind. If I actually tried to give him spinach he would not have anything to do with it! Once we have all the food groups, then we add in a little treat as well either something homemade or his favorite snacks.
Shortly after the first few days at school his teacher informed me that he really wanted a drink in his lunch. I knew that she served water to them in regular cups but apparently he wanted a ‘box’ drink like his friends. So, of course I just had to go find him a boxed drink.
I bought a package of boxed milk along with Mott’s® for Tots Juice. He loves apple juice, but this apple juice has 40% less sugar plus again no artificial sweeteners. I have become a stickler about the sweeteners in the past few months. I went from not paying much attention to checking every food item we eat and picking the more expensive brands if I had to just to avoid those sweeteners. I love that they offer a juice that is still affordable and no artificial sweeteners! It also is packed with Vitamin C, which is another bonus!
This way my picky eater gets healthy choices on his drink options and he always makes sure now that he has a box drink for his lunch!
I always include my son in our lunch packing, which allows him to make choices about his food and get excited about lunchtime. For us the more excited he gets about his food the more likely he’ll eat it!
