This past week I headed over to Kmart to shop for Christmas tabletop decor. I will admit my tabletop decor was nonexistence. I was thrilled to purchase some new items to turn my tabletop into something festive as opposed to dull and boring.
My husband, son, and I ventured around Kmart and we were surprised with how many great items we found and how affordable it all was. We had a budget of $100 for our Christmas decorations and we really were able to purchase a lot and even came in a little under budget! That never happens for me…ever!
We only have 2 Kmart stores in our area and they are not necessarily near us, the closest one is about 25 miles away. I have not been in Kmart in quite a while, so I had fun shopping through not only the holiday decor but the rest of the store as well.
They had so many cute table decorations to choose from. I kept debating a table runner; however, I had a feeling my son would see it hanging from the table and pull it off along with everything on it. I wanted something simple yet fun.
Then, I found this snowman that lit up! I fell in love and the snowman became the inspiration for my tabletop.
We found several other items such as the snow covered pinecones and the beaded garland to go with the inspiration piece. Once we thought we were getting close to our budget we headed to the checkout. We also figured we would go ahead and purchase the gingerbread kit too. I’m looking forward to decorating the gingerbread house with my son this year.
When I got home, I knew there was one other major change I needed to make before getting started on the table centerpiece. I needed to recover my seat cushions. We’ve had the same table for a long time and it had white cushions; however, after a toddler with sticky fingers they quickly became stained. I walked into our closet and spotted our old red quilt and immediately, I was inspired to cut it apart and recover the seat cushions.
My husband was a bit shocked when he walked in and saw our quilt in shreds; however, I have to say I was more than pleased with how the chairs turned out. Even better…they are red. They match my table centerpiece.
I used the pinecones in one of the jars that I purchased, then I filled up the vase with a little bit of beaded garland and some silver glittery decorations. I placed all of these on the bright red placemats next to my new snowman. Then, I accented with a sweater candle, which I have absolutely fallen in love with and a few more bulbs and pinecones.
I am beyond pleased with how this turned out, it truly gave my kitchen a wonderful updated look for the holidays!

Oh, too cute! Great job! How have I never heard of a sweater candle before? What a fun idea!
I’ve had to recover our dining room chairs a time or two thanks to my kids getting more food on them than in their mouths… ours were red up until the last switch as well. They look so bright and cheery!
I’m glad to know I’m not alone with recovering!! I was also so happy to discover how easy that ways. If I would of known how easy it was I would have done it a long time ago!
