Have you ever truly looked at the ingredients in a Hot Dog? I mean…really looked? What’s in those things? Seriously! I won’t lie, I love hot dogs. They are also one of the few items my son will actually eat so I buy them every week. Granted, I hate that my son only eats a couple types of meat because he’s so picky but hot dogs are on his list. Lately, I’ve been getting more interested in truly looking at what is in the food I buy including hot dogs!
I was very happy to find out that Applegate offers organic and natural hot dogs without that mysterious meat. Yep…no mystery meat! At first they were a little different to get used to the texture mostly, but the quality you could immediately tell was 100x better than the mystery meat dogs! My son could not tell the difference and gobbled his up!
We tried one of each of their hot dogs and the one we liked the best was the Big Apple Hot Dog! Of course, we loved them all but this one truly makes you feel like you are in the big city!
The Big Apple Hot Dog is made with pork shoulder and beef chuck, plus you will actually know and be able to pronounce the ingredients on the label. That right there is a plus!
I decided to take this Big Apple Hot Dog and bring it a little closer to home by adding a summer sweet twist to an every day dog!
How did I do this? By making a simple fruit salad that consisted of peaches, watermelon, pineapple, lime juice, and a bunch of fresh cilantro.
All you do is mix it up and you are all set for the perfect hot dog topping. Plus, you’ll probably have leftovers to use later in the week. Try this mixed in with some yogurt and granola…yum!
We cooked up our hot dogs which now is the perfect time to grill them!
Then, it was all about enjoying them!
Are you ready to get rid of mystery meat? Now, is your chance because Applegate is giving away a HUGE prize pack to ONE lucky reader!

We love these hot dogs! We recently tried them for the first time in our home. My PICKY hot dog lovin granddaughter ate them up on an udi bun with no comments about the taste. That’s huge at our house. The quality of the hot dog is well worth the taste. We tried the organic beef hot dog… yum!
yes, and I like them without toppings
My daughter loves hot dogs so would really like to give these a try!
YUM! I would eat it just as I do other dogs. With mustard and cheese and a few onions. Mmmmm!!
We love these hot dogs plain or with relish!

I’m a mustard and relish girl! My kids would love some hotdogs to go with their ketchup!
Not sure about those toppings but I would with mustard and ketchup.

Mustard, Ketchup and cheese!!!!
I have a problem eater and the ONLY meat he will eat is a hotdog. And now that I get him the Applegate Farms ones he refuses to eat other brands. I am just glad to have this option!!
Love a good chilli cheese dog
I would love to have these with some good homemade chili topping and shredded cheddar cheese.
I like hot dogs a lot more than any adult really should! I’d love to win this!
My son doesn’t eat many hot dogs but I feel a lot better about feeding them to him when they are nitrate free!
With Toppings!
Definitely with toppings! I also eat GF, and had one today wrapped in a white corn tortilla (w/just plain ‘ol catsup & mustard) – yum! I also love them with dill relish and mayo. I’d never thought to try it with fruit – so may give your recipe a try – I love pineapple on meat, so I’m sure it would be de-lish 🙂
At this moment I am ready to do my breakfast,
afterward having my breakfast coming again to read other news.
Just ketchup and mustard
