Each week we have two movie nights, typically we have them on Friday nights. We always do a movie with my son before he goes to bed, then after he goes to bed my husband and I have a movie night. We basically think of it as an at home date night since we do not get to go out on dates often.
We usually mix it up with some type of snack or treat then a movie! It works out perfectly right now since my son goes to bed at an early enough bed time.
This week I was ask to review the movie “We Bought a Zoo” plus feed my zoo at home! Let’s face it, many days I feel like I live in a zoo, do you?
I headed to Walmart to pick up some items to make our snacks then a few things for our dog, May. She has not had very many treats lately, she’s on a diet! We thought, we would splurge though and pick up a few treats for her that she can have occasionally. Plus, I knew if she did not have a treat she would try to eat my snack!
Even better, right now if you purchase 2 participating Del Monte pet products, you will receive a coupon for $4.00 off the movie, “We Bought a Zoo”. I found this display of movies in the entertainment section at my local Walmart. To find out more on my shopping trip, head on over to my Google + album.
We let May have her treat then we all headed inside to watch “We Bought a Zoo”.
While the movie was queuing up, I whipped together our movie snacks! We like to have something more than just popcorn every movie night, so I mix it up.
This time, we wanted to stick with something healthy. What could be better than a peach parfait?!

Peach Parfait
Ingredients
- 4 Pack Del Monte Sugar Free Peaches
- 4 6 oz. Fat Free Vanilla Yogurts
- Ground Cinnamon
- Granola or Gluten Free Granola
Instructions
- Begin by draining the juice out of the peaches.
- Next in a bowl or parfait serving glass, being layering your parfait with yogurt, peaches, cinnamon, and granola.
- I prefer to put the cinnamon on top of the peaches, then the granola over that.
- This makes 4 parfaits.

Next, it was time to eat and watch the movie!
My husband said that he wanted another one and that it tasted like a healthy version of peach cobbler! It was that good, I found a new healthy snack!
My little man enjoyed his too. He is intently trying to watch the movie.
This is the “Mommy, stop taking pictures of me” face! It was time to enjoy, relax, and watch the movie!
Overall, our thoughts on the movie, “We Bought a Zoo”, it was fabulous! I really enjoyed it; however, it is not a kid movie, at least not young kids. I would say middle school and up. My son was only interested for about the first 5 minutes when he realized there was more talking than animals and Thomas and Bob the Builder were not in it!
I felt like the themes were a bit too deep for toddlers or younger children to keep their attention. As for those of us that are older, I really enjoyed it. There were a few bad words in the movie that I really did not think were necessary, and I prefer not to have that language filtered into my son. Although, he is too young to really know what they mean, he repeats things at this age.
Aside from that, based on other movies I’ve seen this one was a great, clean movie and truly inspiring. It made me want to jump on a plane and go to the zoo! The movie is based on a true story, so the zoo really does exist. I love watching the movies that are based on true stories because they have such a deeper meaning than most.
We enjoyed our movie night and our snack! I loved feeding my zoo and it’s one of the things in life I would never change no matter how hectic it gets!
