Use a Red Velvet Cake Mix to make these easy Red Velvet Donuts, perfect for Valentine’s Day!
As we head into the next holiday these Red Velvet Donuts are a perfect choice. These are also fun for any festive events throughout the year too!
Can you make Red Velvet Donuts with Cake Mix?
This recipe does use Red Velvet Cake Mix as the base of the recipe, so it’s best to get a good quality Red Velvet Cake.
I prefer this Duncan Hines Red Velvet Cake Mix.
Can you make these Gluten-Free?
If you need to make these gluten-free, use a gluten-free mix. I have recently discovered this Gluten-Free Red Velvet Cake Mix that has rave reviews!
If you do plan to make this gluten-free, a simple switch of cake mix is the only necessary swap but as always check all ingredients.
Tips for Making Red Velvet Donuts:
To make things easier when piping the donuts into the pan, you can use a piping bag or decorator’s bag to easily pipe it into the pan.
The batter is not very thick, so it’s best to cut the bag right when you are ready to start filling the pan.
The Wilton Donut Pan is a must-have for this recipe.
A few things to remember too, these donuts do last on the counter for 2-3 days in an airtight container or in the fridge for up to 5 days.
If you prefer to freeze them, be sure they are not glazed yet and seal them in a freezer-safe bag for up to 60 days.
The cream cheese glaze is optional but we personally prefer it, this would be prepared while the donuts are cooling. Be sure to coat them when they have fully cooled.
The cream cheese adds a wonderful flavor to these donuts.
Are you ready for a treat? Time for some delicious Red Velvet Donuts!

The recipe calls for 4 Oz of cream cheese. Not until you begin mixing is there any mention of eggs. It also doesn’t specify how much of the cream cheese goes into the batter and how much goes into the icing.
Hi there, the eggs are the first ingredient in the recipe card, 3 eggs. It uses 4oz of cream cheese in the donuts and another 4 oz in the glaze ingredients. I hope this helps clarify.
