Leftover ham can easily be used for this Dill Ham Salad.
Dill Ham Salad is the perfect choice for leftover ham. It’s our go-to especially after Easter. It never fails, I always buy way too much ham.
I just get so nervous that I won’t have enough, then I end up with WAY too much. That is fine with me though when I know ham salad is coming next!
As Easter quickly approaches, soon ham will be gracing the table of families around the world but then it will soon become leftovers!
What is there to do with all those leftovers? Why not make this delicious Dill Ham Salad!? This post was originally posted in 2013, but it’s a good recipe to revisit this week after Easter.
We had a large amount of ham left after we baked a ham this past week, so I thought I would adapt my Dill Chicken Salad to use it with the ham.
What can you make with leftover Ham?
When I think of ham salad, my mind immediately goes back to being a kid and growing up at the pool. I was a pool bum to say the least.
My grandma used to take us to the pool just about daily during the summers. We would stop on our way at the local grocery store and she would stock up on ingredients to make ham salad sandwiches.
Then, we would stop by our local QT and fill up our Koozies full of our favorite slushie.
Next up…pool time. Funny how something like a ham salad sandwich can completely take you back down memory lane, isn’t it?
I remember the smells of the pool and really everything about it when I think of ham salad sandwiches, it immediately takes me back to that.
I really miss those days sometimes, but I also look forward to sharing them with my kids.
This year though, our pool is being remodeled that we always go to, so now I’m unsure what we are going to do. It’s definitely going to throw a curve-ball into our summer plans. I’m even debating getting a small pool, but I also feel like the kids have more fun at the neighborhood pool with other kids.
I have another month to think that over.
Now on to this delicious salad!
Enjoy this on your favorite sandwich, crackers, or salad!
Dill Ham Salad
- 6 Oz Nonfat Greek Yogurt- Plain
- 1/2 Cup Nonfat Sour Cream
- 1 Cup Mayo
- 1 Tbsp Dill Weed or to taste
- 1 Tsp Seasoned Salt
- 1 Tsp Parsley
- Leftover Ham Chunks
- 4-5 Green Onions Chopped
- 3 Celery Stalks Chopped
Note: The leftover Ham when I made this came to about 4 cups. If you have more or less you may need to adjust the dill mixture amounts.
Mix together all the dill mixture ingredients and set aside.
In a food processor add in all ham salad ingredients and then pulse according to the instructions with your processor.
Once you have it processed, pour it into a large bowl. Then, mix in the dill mixture.
Serve immediately or let chill for a few hours.
This made 4 cups of ham salad.
