Get ready to make some memories this summer by enjoying a backyard camping adventure!
This post is sponsored by Head Country BBQ, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s summertime and that means adventure. Doesn’t it? The thing about creating an adventure with the family is that really you do not even have to leave your backyard. How? Backyard Camping!
I think sometimes we get so wrapped up in having to create these big, extravagant adventures and outings for our families that sometimes we forget the simple ones are usually the best ones.
How do you create a Backyard Camping Adventure?
There are a few things you will want to have on hand for backyard camping, of course, the best bbq sauce is one of those.
We use Head Country BBQ Sauce and Seasonings to create quite a delicious assortment of campfire recipes. I’ll be sharing many of those campfire recipes over the next few weeks, but first, let’s really break down backyard camping.
As I’ve thought about it lately, the most memorable moments that we had as kids were the little, simple things we did like going to the pool, exploring the fields around our home, cookouts, and staying up late to catch fireflies.
My parents always love when I say that because we know that those vacations cost a lot of money and at the end of the day it’s the little, inexpensive things I remember the most about my childhood.
That just leads me to something that everyone should try at least once and create your own backyard camping adventure. It can be one of the most fun, relaxing ways to spend time together as a family.
There are though a few must-haves that you will want to have on your backyard camping adventure. The benefit though of doing this in the backyard is that if you forget something, just go inside and get it. Plus, nice bathrooms…that’s always a plus!
How do you make backyard camping fun?
Backyard camping can actually be even more fun than traditional camping. There are so many different things you can do. The best advice I can give you is to be creative and simply relax.
Enjoy the time you have together!
Cook Outside –
The best part of backyard camping is the food. It’s our favorite part of camping. We created our own firepit right in our backyard. Then, we added this campfire grill to go right on top of our firepit.
Of course, you must have the best BBQ sauce to create your delicious campfire food. We decided to use Head Country Seasoning and Original BBQ Sauce to top our Baby Back Ribs.
We put them right over the campfire for an hour, wrapping them up in foil toward the end of the cooking time.
They were hands down the best ribs I’ve ever had!
We paired this with campfire beans. We used the Apple Habanero BBQ Sauce to flavor our beans. They were gone quickly! I actually thought they would be too spicy for my liking but they were not spicy at all. The flavor was simply amazing.
Lastly, we also roasted asparagus over the campfire and made a campfire blueberry crisp. Did you know you can cook all of this right over your campfire?
We enjoyed it so much that we already have plans to do this again next week. It was more fun than using our grill!
Plus all of the food was just perfect.
Setup a Tent –
Of course with camping, it’s best to have a tent. Setup a tent right in your backyard complete with your sleeping bags and lights to spend the night outside!
Our kids like to get their sleeping arrangements all prepared while we are building the campfire and getting the food ready. It’s also a good idea to add the rain cover to your tent too. Just in case, unless you just want to run inside if it rains.
Here in Oklahoma, we get lots of showers randomly in the middle of the night so it’s always a good idea to have that.
Setup Lights –
We really love to set up strings of lights, these can be as easy as a strain of outdoor lights just hanging from one side of the tent to the other but it sure makes it beautiful at night.
We also get several little lights for the kids to bring out, plus the ones that go on a hat are fun for the kids. Especially if you plan to do some exploring once it gets dark out.
Play Games –
We love to play games when we do backyard camping. It’s always fun to fill the tent with some board games or cards right on the picnic table outside the tent.
What else is fun to play? Backyard Camping Bingo! It’s easy to print this bingo card and play bingo right outside. This is such a fun one for the kids and it’s easy to just print it out, such a frugal fun idea to add to your backyard camping adventure.
Campfire Stories –
Campfire Stories is one of my favorite memories of childhood. This is one that is so fun to do with the kids and easy because you can really tell a story about anything and it is fun for them.
We like to go around and each person tells a different story. This is just a classic of childhood. This can even be done while you are enjoying all that delicious campfire food too.
Of course, sometimes I end up holding my daughter because we all know campfire stories should be a little bit spooky!
Get creative and don’t stress simply enjoy creating a backyard camping adventure!
As you can see backyard camping can easily be made fun and it’s such a frugal summer idea. The kids are bound to remember it for years to come, plus it’s a great family tradition!
Head Country is a MUST for your backyard camping adventure it can be added to just about all of your meats and beans, plus even some vegetables too. It’s the best BBQ sauce to add to your campfire recipes.
Enjoy your backyard camping adventure!
