Cooking Fail

I thought I’d keep it real for you yet again and share this dish.  It’s a cooking fail I suppose; however, it was more like a product fail.

I love Mongolian Beef, and I have been looking to try a good recipe to make it taste like restaurant quality at home!  I was at the grocery store the other day and saw some seasoning packets similar to taco seasoning that said ‘Mongolian Beef’.  They were very inexpensive so I decided to use one.  Just looking at the picture makes me hungry again for Mongolian Beef.

I was off to a good start the recipe was going just as I planned.

Then, I took a bite.  I needed a drink.  Water.  Fast!

The seasoning made the meat so extremely salty that it was nearly impossible to eat.

Lesson Learned.  I will not be purchasing that packet of seasoning again.

Do you have the perfect Mongolian Beef recipe?  I would love to hear it!

I’ve never thought of preparing Mongolian Beef. I didn’t know you could, isn’t that sad. I thought only professional chefs were able to do that. I’m learning so much!

I’ve been wondering about those seasoning packets. I chickened out and didn’t try them for fear of not turning out like the restaurants version. I don’t have a Mongolian Beef recipe but here is a Bourbon Chicken recipe I adore!
(keeping in the vein of chinese buffet recipes. 🙂 )

I’ve stopped buying those packets myself. They are all mostly salt anyway and I am not a salt person. In fact I almost never add it to my food. While cooking if the recipe calls for it, yes. As an after added seasoning, never. Thanks for your thoughts on this type of “quick” cook attempt. I don’t think I’ve ever had Mongolian Beef but, it looks yummy!!!!

I hardly ever use salt either apart from Garlic Salt, so I totally agree with you. I will try again and hopefully get a good recipe for Mongolian Beef soon. It looked delicious, if only it tasted that way.
