It’s Back to School time and that also means we all probably need to stock up on some great snacks, so I’m sharing some After School Snack Ideas today.
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Disney. All opinions are entirely my own.
Did you know things change when you have kids? Most of you probably completely understand this. When I was pregnant with my first child, my mom would constantly tell me that I was about to experience a complete life change. I really had no idea what she meant and I kept thinking, “yeah, okay mom.” Well, guess what? Mama is ALWAYS right.
Now when I think about my life, it is in stages, pre-kids and post-kids. I can only vaguely remember what life was like before kids. Now, I always think of things in the mindset of my kids and what they will need, not necessarily about myself. Once you have kids, your mindset completely shifts. That also means that one day you will suddenly need a place for snacks that are for the kids.
As my kids have grown, we now have a snack drawer, which I’d image was actually meant for produce in our fridge but it’s now the snack drawer. Each week, I stock up on snacks for the week and all the snacks for the kids go in that specific spot in the fridge. Then, we have a basket for dry snacks in the pantry as well. This way when the kids say ‘I’m hungry, I need a snack,’ they know exactly where to go to get one, and I know what their options are. It’s actually a very easy way to be sure they are getting better snack options as opposed to more sugary snacks.
Now what goes into that snack drawers? First on our list is ALWAYS cheese sticks, this past week we picked up Disney Frozen String Cheese, which you can grab at your local Ahold store. The best part? There was a coupon right on the package, which makes it a great item to stock up on for back to school season too. I like to be sure to stock up on snacks that are good for the kids, these are a great source of protein and calcium, plus I can use them as snacks or pack them in their lunchboxes. I actually do both. Right now if you shop at Meijer, Giant, ShopRite, Tops Friendly Markets, HEB or Wegmans, you can save $0.75 on your own Disney Frozen String Cheese! Get it here!
Along with cheese sticks, we also add yogurt, apples, applesauce, bananas, and grapes to our snack drawer. The kids love all their fruit chilled, so I put a bunch of fruit in the drawer too. Do you have any go-to snack options? I’d love to hear some of yours too!
Now, after school is the challenge for us and probably will be for another year or so until my daughter gets a bit older. She doesn’t have homework yet but my son does and he needs help doing his homework sometimes. I decided to pick up workbooks for my daughter to do while I help my son.
She feels like a big girl doing homework and I’m able to help both of them, making it a little bit less stressful. She completely enjoys her cheese too while working on her homework. She’s also a Disney Frozen fanatic, so she loves to pick out a cheese stick with a different character on it each day.
Now, I can rest assured too because the cheese is a great wholesome, responsible choice for the kids and it’s so tasty they can’t resist!
What are some of your go-to snack items? Be sure to check out more activities and tips from other moms here too!
Happy Back to School Season!
