Teach the kids the ropes of the kitchen with these 20+ Kids Cooking Recipes, easy and simple for them to learn to cook!
One skill that is invaluable to teach your kids is how to cook with these kids cooking recipes. Did you learn to cook as a kid? Many kids never really learn to cook as a kid, I was one of those kids.
Cooking just wasn’t a huge part of our day, now I learned how to redo furniture, build things, and more…but cooking wasn’t high up on the list.
I also realize now how important Home Economics classes are, only it wasn’t required when I was in school, so I never took that either. I knew a few basics like how to make box products but outside of pasta, I had no idea how to make anything.
When I got married, my husband was the cook, he took over all the cooking, I rarely cooked. A few years into our marriage, our shifts changed and suddenly I was home in the evening to cook and he wasn’t.
That meant I had to have a crash course in cooking…which eventually led to this website.
So it all turned out well, but I am now trying to carve out time to teach my kids to cook too. I’ll admit it’s hard for me, as for all of us, sometimes it’s easier to do it ourselves…which is the dilemma I run into quite a bit.
In saying that though, doing it yourself isn’t always the best idea when taking the time to teach the kids will really benefit them well in life as they get older. So I’m trying to make that a point to do!
Each of these recipes are great kids cooking recipes!
What age should you teach your child to cook?
They can actually start as young as 6, sometimes younger with your help of course. My kids started cooking with me as young toddlers, helping out with things. Now as they’ve gotten older, they can do more around the kitchen.
It’s said though around age 6 and up, you can start to teach them basic skills such as using a stove, making their lunch, and then as they get older it gets more and more in-depth.
I’ll share a list of Kids Cooking Recipes, but remember there are many more you could add to the list too, be sure to add a few of your favorites to the comments.
As always with every step supervision is absolutely necessary until you feel your child is capable of handling it on their own, which may be well into the pre-teen to teen years depending on the child.
I’ve found these days with an Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi, or Air Fryer, kids can learn to use those fairly easily, so I have added a few of those recipes in the list too.
