Steamed Snap Peas
I noticed recently that on this site I focus more on main dishes as opposed to sides. I thought I would take a minute and post about a side dish. Over the past few years, my preference of veggies has changed. Previously, before I cooked regularly, I purchased several canned veggies. Now, I prefer either fresh or frozen. It is a rare occasion that I purchase any canned veggies at this point.
As I browsed the April issue of Cooking Light, I noticed a recipe for Steamed Sugar Snap Peas. This recipe calls for fresh snap peas; however, I had a bag of frozen snap peas on hand. I decided to adapt this recipe and it worked well, I ended up with wonderful snap peas.
- 1 Bag Frozen Snap Peas (I would use the ones that are steamable in the bag.)
- 1 Tbsp Chopped Fresh Basil
- 1 Tbsp Butter
- 1/8 Tsp Salt
- 1/8 Tsp Pepper
- Grated Parmesan Cheese
Begin by cutting a very small whole in the side of the bag of snap peas then add in all remaining ingredients into the bag.
At this point, it is best if you reseal the bag. In my case, I simply folded it under to seal it and placed it on a plate so that it would catch the juices.
I heated this up according to the steaming instructions on the bag.
Once cooked, I topped with a little bit of grated Parmesan.
I am loving all the ideas I have received in the Cooking Light magazine, this was a great way to add flavor to veggies!
