Did you know those packaged taco seasonings are packed full of sodium and other unknown ingredients? They are! I’ll admit, I buy them too from time to time, but having a batch of Homemade Taco Seasoning on hand gives you control over what goes into that seasoning.
This Homemade Taco Seasoning is made with pantry seasonings, you likely have them all right in your spices and seasonings.
What do you need for Homemade Taco Seasoning?
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Dried Oregano
- Black Pepper
- Paprika
- Salt
- Chili Powder
That’s all you need, just a few simple ingredients and you will have a great Homemade Taco Seasoning that is perfect for dinner.
Tips for Making Homemade Taco Seasoning:
This can be used immediately or stored in an airtight container in the pantry. It will last quite a while just as the seasonings you used in it will too.
When you are ready to serve it, use 2 Tbsp of seasoning per 1 pound of meat, and add about 1/3 cup of water to it as well when adding to ground beef.
If you are making fajitas, I like to just sprinkle it on top of the chicken and not add water to it as you will see in the recipes mentioned below. This seasoning is absolutely perfect for fajitas.

Ingredients
- 2 Tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 Tsp Onion Powder
- 2 Tsp Dried Oregano
- 1 Tsp Black Pepper
- 1 Tsp Paprika
- 2 Tsp Salt
- 2 Tbsp Chili Powder
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, add the ingredients and mix well.
- Whisk them until well combined.
- Transfer and store in an airtight container until ready to serve.
