Happy March 1st! It’s time! Are you preparing your garden yet? My husband has basically mapped out our entire backyard to expand his garden this year. I’ll be posting pictures next week of our progress and the beginnings of our garden expansion, but first a look at our planning for this year and looking back at last year.
He has slowly but surely been bringing in dirt to load up the garden with. We planned to dig up underneath where our garden would be planted, then it occurred to us that we have a sprinkler system so all those pipes are underneath where are garden is going. That means we are bringing in dirt instead of digging up the yard.
We have been discussing what we will be planting this year, first on my list is spaghetti squash. I have to research that more since we have never done that one before. Then, we plan to do a variety of veggies including potatoes, squash, tomatoes, okra and possibly some fruit like strawberries. I also love doing onions in the garden too.
The only thing we have really scratched from our list this year is corn. The bugs seem to have ate our corn before we even had a chance to pick it last year. Also scaling back on the pepper plants, we had enough peppers last year to last a lifetime!
I will also be planting lots of herbs, that’s my favorite! I think fresh herbs just make the dish burst with flavor when cooking with all those fresh garden veggies!
Did you know that I have a whole gardening section on my blog? Head over to the gardening tab at the top of the page to follow along this year. Also join me over on Pinterest on my gardening board!
