Make a classic comfort food with this Tater Tot Casserole, simple to swap to gluten-free too!
Tater Tot Hot Dish has been a go-to for MANY years, likely in some of the original cookbooks, and for a good reason, it’s very quick to make and easy, plus more than likely everyone in your household will enjoy it.
This meal is a quick mixture of cream of mushroom soup with lean ground beef, canned green beans, and canned corn, and then topped with tater tots.
The tater tot casserole will be baked in a preheated oven until the tater tots are golden brown. Lastly, top it with sharp cheddar cheese and even the picky kids will love this easy comfort meal.
How do you make Gluten-Free Tater Tot Casserole?
The only swap needed to make this gluten-free is to use Gluten-Free Cream of Mushroom Soup. There are a variety of canned cream soups at your local grocery store, but you can also make your own.
We regularly use this Gluten-Free Homemade Cream of Mushroom Soup.
Tips for Making Tater Tot Casserole:
Tater Tot Casserole is typically made with ground beef; however, you can also use ground turkey if you prefer.
Additional salt, pepper, and other fresh herbs can be used to season it more if you would like to your taste.
The tater tots can be frozen tater tots, they will be placed on top of the meat mixture in an even layer.
Remember that you will be using cooked ground beef along with simple ingredients, but it’s easy to customize it with extras if you prefer.
This is a one-dish dinner that will be made all in one casserole dish, making it a complete meal with easy clean up too!
Can you make this a freezer meal?
Tater Tot Casserole is so easy to turn into a freezer meal, casserole recipes are typically the best choice for freezer meals.
If you would like to do this, prepare an aluminum pan or freezer-safe casserole dish, then prepare the casserole as instructed but without the cheese.
Once done, wrap the entire casserole with plastic wrap and then again with aluminum foil to double protect it.
The entire dish can then be placed in the freezer or deep freezer.
When you are ready to bake the casserole, let it sit for 2-3 hours to defrost, then bake according to the instructions in the recipe card below.
I like to make 2 of these when I’m preparing one for dinner because typically your tater tots will come in a 2-pound bag, enough for 2 casseroles. Then, you can easily freeze one for next time and cook one for dinner that night, you get 2 meals with less work!
How do you store leftover casserole?
Store the leftovers in an airtight container. When ready to serve it can be reheated in a microwave-safe dish in the microwave for 2-3 minutes.

I’m not gonna lie, I am not someone who makes casseroles. Maybe it’s because I never grew up eating them. But I can see why they are so great–easy to make, heartwarming, and great for prep work on super busy weeknights. And we sure do love anything that involves tater tots!

Hi, can I use chicken broth instead of cream of mushroom soup and already cooked rotisserie chicken from the grocery store instead of ground beef?
Mommy Hates Cooking says
You could use the rotisserie but you’d need to use cream of chicken not broth.

This was a good recipe. I did make the cream of chicken in stead of mushroom, because I was out. My family loves it.

where is the recipe card mentioned? Can’t you just print the recipe alone? Very frustrating trying to copy and get the steps all together.
