BBQ Spice Homemade Coleslaw

Part of our summer’s include many cookouts; however, I will say we are probably saving our cookouts for fall this year.  When I walk outside and I’m in a furnace, cooking out does not seem quite as amusing!

One of the main staples for any good cookout is the coleslaw of course.  What better side dish to compliment BBQ?  At least that’s my opinion.

Oh and Oven Fried Chicken in the colder months with coleslaw and mashed potatoes?

I’m making myself hungry while I write this.

Now, go start cooking that big BBQ…don’t melt!

CPK BBQ Chicken Pizza

This past week we attempted to grill a pizza.  I love grilled pizza; however, we are still trying to perfect the grill time and temperature.  I decided to try the CPK’s BBQ Chicken Pizza.  I love this style of pizza and thought it would be perfect.

The result?  We had a delicious pizza other than the bottom was completely burnt.  I used a baking stone to grill the pizza, but we realized that at 300*, the middle of the pizza cooked extremely quickly whereas the outside did not.  Next time we are going to lower the charcoal and place the pizza on the grill in a different position, as well as lowering the temperature.

We still ate this pizza, likely to be one of my favorites.  The portion of the pizza that was not burnt was delicious and makes me remember why I love grilled pizza the best.

Now…we are on to trying to perfect it!

What are your suggestions?  Have you found the perfect method to fix a grilled pizza?

BBQ Festival

One of our family’s favorite events in our area is the Bixby BBQ Festival.  BBQ teams come from all over the area to cook up some of the best BBQ and be judged on it.  For only $5, you can get a plate and go from booth to booth, seriously more food than I could possibly eat at one time.  However, I will definitely try!

The lines of people walking around sampling is tremendous, but the lines move fast!

This meat, worth the wait!

He was raised to love him some good BBQ!

My husband waiting patiently to fill up on even more of that down home BBQ.

My mother-in-law and sister-in-law, about to taste some of the best BBQ in the Oklahoma area.

Wait!  Please don’t tell me I have to visit one of these!  Someone, grab the sanitizer, better yet a bucket of it.

My brother-in-law and father-in-law, trying to eat, but I wouldn’t let them without taking a picture first.  I wouldn’t be opposed to them throwing BBQ at me, yum.

Of course, one time through wouldn’t be enough, we must go back!  It’s all you can eat around here!

After we eat, it’s time to take the kiddo on to the fun stuff!  We stop by the petting zoo.  He was not too sure about these creatures.

What would a petting zoo be without a rock star horse.  Pink?

Then, it’s time for grandpa to take him on a pony ride.  He loves it, he’s a born cowboy.

Checking out the new creatures, no son, these will not be our pets.

Anyone else feel like he has his eye on you?

Our happy boy!

The day would not be complete without my root beer float!  Only another 364 days until next year!

Happy Sunday and Happy Mother’s Day!  Now, go fix some BBQ!

Friday Favorite: Smoked Brisket

This week’s Friday Favorite is Smoked Brisket.  Sometimes I think I could possibly live on brisket alone.  I love it that much.  I also love pouring my homemade BBQ sauce all over it, heavenly.

This last time that we made our brisket, we simply covered the brisket with Lawhorn’s Signature Seasoning and then smoked it for about 6-8 hours.  The longer you smoke it the more tender it is, I prefer it this way.

Another great thing about brisket, is it feeds a lot or you can have leftovers all week.

Have fun cooking out this weekend!

Homemade BBQ Sauce

I’m sure you have noticed now that my family loves to smoke meats and have BBQ.  A good BBQ all comes down to the sauce.  Last year, a friend of mine passed along to me her favorite homemade BBQ sauce.

At this point, I did not even know people actually made their own BBQ sauce.  Then, I read the recipe and thought I have that all in my pantry and fridge!

I whipped this up really fast and fell in love.  Now, we use it on all of our meats and BBQ recipes!

Pure deliciousness.
