Today’s post is going to be a little different than most, focusing on giving and paying it forward. One of the biggest blessings of my job is being able to partner with some incredible brands. Although many brands appear to be these corporate giants, there are some really good companies out there and the majority are run by loving, giving people just like us! One of the biggest blessings to me this year was becoming a blogging partner with Great Day Farms.
Honestly, I could not have ask for a better company to work with. This holiday season they mentioned to us that they were going to give us $100 to give forward to a charity or organization of our choice in order to help us give back and encourage us to give this season.
I was blown away! I have worked with a number of brands over the years and this is one of the first times I have seen this.
Immediately I knew exactly what I was planning to do with the money. First, it encouraged my family to step up and give more as well. My kids have more than enough and honestly I went way overboard this year and have been giving some of what I bought for my kids away to others because of that. It’s so easy to start buying things for our kids, but ultimately I want my kids to know what giving is and understand that is always what comes first.

One of my dearest friends, Mia from Make Me Up Mia, and her family suffered a major tragedy this year. Her brother was injured in an ATV accident leaving him with a serious brain injury that has left him in the hospital for many months now. He is only 17 and was entering into the final year of high school. On top of that her family has had to find the finances to pay medical bills, house payments, and temporary housing for them to be there with them. Then, on top of all of that they are still fighting for the truth in the accident he had.
I grew up with this family for many years until I was entering high school they moved away and we lost contact. Many years ago we were able to reconnect because of Facebook, and I still feel like I know them so well even though I haven’t seen them in years! The last time I saw Christian he was a baby, and now to see him going through such suffering completely breaks my heart.

Even more I think about how her family is doing through all of this trying to keep a brave face when ultimately it’s hard not to break down and ask God, “Why did this happen to us?” I can tell their faith is what is getting them through this. I also know that God is a God of miracles and because of their faith…Christian will be healed.
So, although it may not be a specific charity or organization, my family has chosen the Mayberry’s to give to. It may not be much in the grand scheme of things, but I do know that anything makes a difference and what they need the most are prayers and support.
Do you have creative ways that you and your family give back during the holidays and throughout the year?
Disclosure: I am a blog partner with Great Day Farms; however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
