Peaches & Cream Oatmeal with Truvia

peaches & cream oatmeal

I have mentioned a few times that as I go through this pregnancy, I have to watch my sugar intake closely due to having gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy.  In doing so, I recently was introduced to Truvia which is a natural sweetener.  Truvia can bake and cook just like regular sugar but you use 1/2 the amount as regular sugar!  That means a lot less calories!

This week I have been trying out Truvia with some of my recipes as a replacement for sugar a few that it works well on are my Chocolate Chip Brownies and the Apple Crisp.

Another one I decided to try this week is Peaches & Cream Oatmeal.  I have become a huge fan of homemade oatmeal in the mornings because it just takes a few short minutes and it makes enough for 2-3 servings which is perfect for my little family!  The baking went well using Truvia and so did the cooking.  My husband and son could not tell a difference which was just what I was hoping for, sneaky…I know.

With Peaches & Cream oatmeal in mind, I set off to Walmart pick up some Truvia.  I quickly spotted the packets of Truvia.

Just underneath the packets is the Truvia Baking Blend that works perfect for baking and cooking.  It’s smaller than the typical bags of sugar which was the first thing I noticed; however, you use half the amount that you would normally use.  So, I picked up a bag and headed on home to make the Peaches & Cream oatmeal.  To see more of my shopping trip head over to Google +.

I gathered up my ingredients and I was ready to start cooking!

The best part of making the Peaches & Cream Oatmeal, was that I only had to use an 1/8 of a cup compared to a 1/4 of a cup of regular sugar.  This was a quick way to cut out the calories.  It tasted exactly the same as using the full amount of sugar.  I also sprinkled a little on top and served it warm!

I have also started a Truvia Pinterest Board, these are recipes that I would love to try and make healthier with Truvia.  I am sure I’ll have a hefty list soon!
