Banana Mocha Breakfast Smoothie

banana mocha breakfast smoothie

I thought I would share this recipe to get you started this week!  I mentioned last week that I found several great smoothie recipes on Cooking Light.  I was anxious to start trying them because I need some healthy morning drinks to start my day with.

I love that with smoothies they can easily be frozen so that you can drink them throughout the week.  I typically use these Ball freezer storage cups to store my smoothies.  When I am getting ready in the mornings, I sit one out and it’s typically ready to go by the time I am on my way to my destination or when I get there.  I have always used the 8oz Ball Containers; however, I was excited to find a 16oz version at my grocery store this past week.  The link shows you them on Amazon; however, at Walmart I can find them for $2-3, much cheaper there.

For the breakfast smoothie recipe, I adapted it a bit from the original based on some of the reviews on it.  It did have a strong kick of banana but it was good and filling!

Banana Mocha Breakfast Smoothie

  • 1 Cup Fat Free 1/2 & 1/2
  • 1 Tbsp Honey
  • 1/8 Tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 Tsp Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Frozen Sliced Ripe Banana
  • 1 Cup Nonfat Plain Greek Yogurt
  • Ice

Place all ingredients in the blender with 1/2 cup-1 cup of ice until fully blended. Regarding the ice, I typically just use the amount I need to get to the desired consistency, adding more if necessary.

This recipe filled 2 16oz containers and 1 8oz container.

“Mocha” implies coffee… is there really supposed to be no coffee in this recipe or did it get overlooked? Just wondering, since I’m trying to figure out the calorie count! :)

In saying that though…adding coffee to it would just make it even better! :)
