CPK BBQ Chicken Pizza

This past week we attempted to grill a pizza.  I love grilled pizza; however, we are still trying to perfect the grill time and temperature.  I decided to try the CPK’s BBQ Chicken Pizza.  I love this style of pizza and thought it would be perfect.

The result?  We had a delicious pizza other than the bottom was completely burnt.  I used a baking stone to grill the pizza, but we realized that at 300*, the middle of the pizza cooked extremely quickly whereas the outside did not.  Next time we are going to lower the charcoal and place the pizza on the grill in a different position, as well as lowering the temperature.

We still ate this pizza, likely to be one of my favorites.  The portion of the pizza that was not burnt was delicious and makes me remember why I love grilled pizza the best.

Now…we are on to trying to perfect it!

What are your suggestions?  Have you found the perfect method to fix a grilled pizza?

Kristy- I grilled pizza for the first time over the weekend. I just used the store bought crust mix (because it was the first time). I greased the tin foil pans and pressed the crust out in them. It said to bake at 400 so that’s what I set the grill at. I put the crust on the grill for about 3 minutes to bake prior to adding the toppings to the pizza. Put the toppings on then put the pizza back on the grill for probably 6-7 more minutes. The crust was getting browned before the top so I took them (I was grilling two pizzas at once) off the grill and put them under the broiler in my oven for a few minutes. It was perfect. The top was perfectly browned and the bottom was brown, but not burnt!

  2. I haven’t tried to grill pizza yet but it sounds delish! I love CPK’s Tostada Pizza! Yum-O!!

  3. Hi Kristy~ We grill pizzas a lot too. (Ironically, we did griled pizzas for Father’s Day!!)
First thing we do is oil the grates then slip the pizza straight on the grates. You do have to watch it so that it browns & not burns :) Then slide it off & turn upside down so that your toppings go on the cooked side & not the raw side. Once your done putting your toppings on, slide it back on the grill raw side down so that, that side will then cook & your toppings melt while the bottom is cooking. If you keep an eye on it you’ll avoid burning it :)
    Hope that helps!!

  4. That still looks pretty good, even if it was a little overdone.
