Recently, a friend of mine shared this great recipe on Facebook for Homemade Play Dough. It may not necessarily be an edible recipe; however, I made this for my son and thought it would be something fun to share.
Ingredients:
- 2 Cups Flour
- 4 Tbsp Cream of Tarter
- 1 Cup Salt
- 4 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
- 2 Cups Water
- Food Coloring
Directions:
Start by mixing the dry ingredients and then adding in the remaining ingredients. Stir this until well mixed and microwave for 2 minutes. Take this out and stir it again then microwave for 2 more minutes.
Let it sit to cool, and then kneed it and time to play!
This can be stored in an airtight container or Ziploc bag for up to 6 months. Be sure not to omit the Cream of Tarter as this is what makes it last longer.
My son loved this, I will say that it did seem a bit oily so I will probably cut back on the oil the next time around.
He had fun with his 1st experience with play Dough, and I had sudden memories of preschool, thanks to that distinct smell!
Happy Playing!

I have been using this recipe in my childcare home for almost 8 years. THE BEST! It will last MONTHS in your refrigerator in an airtight container….or until the thoughts of the germs send you over the edge and you make a new batch!

Love the ideas!!!
oh…and I cook it on the stove (medium heat stirring constantly until it pulls all from the sides of the pan), adding the food coloring with the water so my hands don’t get stained. Never have found it oily.
