I made my first attempt at a homemade cake for our family birthday party. I have to admit it came out much better than I expected. It was extremely chocolate filled, but that was the best part for chocolate lovers!
Ingredients:
- 4 1/2 Cups Flour
- 3 Cups Sugar
- 1 Cup Cocoa Powder
- 1 Cup Applesauce
- 2 Eggs
- 3 Cups Water
- 3 Tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 Tsp Salt
- 4 Tbsp Vanilla
- 1 Cup Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
- 2 Tbsp Vanilla Powdered Creamer (Optional)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350*.
Begin by mixing in all the dry ingredients, adding in the eggs, water, vanilla, applesauce, and chocolate chips. Mix thoroughly.
I poured this into 2 9 inch round pans and baked for 30 minutes. This can also be done in a 9 x 13 inch pan and baked for 30 minutes as well. Perform the toothpick test to be sure that the center is completely done before removing.
This cake in my husbands words was very moist, which is what I liked about it. He said with a tall glass of milk it was perfect.
I learned after attempting to decorate the cake, that I am looking forward to taking cake decorating classes in my very new future. No, my toddler did not help me decorate this cake, I take full responsibility for my lack of skills. My family thought it was perfect, and I am glad to have a picture of my 1st cake so that I will be able to see how far I’ve come once I am out of cake decorating class.
We almost had a cake catastrophe on the way to my mom’s house. My husband hit a rough turn and the top layer slid off! Luckily I was able to repair it and we all ignored it’s lopsidedness!
Enjoy this tasty chocolate treat!
